Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
Answer:
- Enter the "Advisor" in the MatLab command window to open the Advisor tool.
- Then select the " EV_defaults_in" from the load file tab as shown below.
- Change the cargo mass to 500 kg with all other default condition.

- Press continue to move to the next step.
- Select the Drive cycle tab and choose "CYC_FTP"
- The bar graph in the below image reprents that around 42% of the time the vehicle is at 0 kmph.
- The distance of the one cycle is 17.77 km & time is 2477 sec.
- Lets run the mode for one cycle.

- After simulation the results are as follows.

- Observed that SOC of storage device is around 60% after 17.8 km.
- Lets increase the Cycle to 3 and observe the result.

- Observed that at 42.4 km the SOC of the storage device is 0%.
- So it is not possible for a vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle at default value.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
Answer:

- By changing the Energy storage to the "ESS_PB65_FocusEV", now 28 modules are available & Voltage is 353v. Also weight increased to 1779 kg.
- Lets run the module with "CYC_FTP" drive cycle for 3 cycles.

- Run the simulation.

- After 3 cycles the vehicle traveled 53.3 km & the SOC is around 50%.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
Answer:
(a). After loading the PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file , keep all values to the default. Choose the gradeability test in the next window. For the speed at 60 mph & 10 sec duration calculated gradeability when energy storage is disabled.

- The gradeability at 60 mph is 1.5% as shown below.

- The gradeability at 50 mph is 2% as shown below

- The gradeability at 40 mph is 2.5% as shown below.

(b). By selecting All systems enabled is gradeability tab calculated the gradeability at different speeds.
- The gradeability at 60 mph is 8.1% as shown below.

- The gradeability at 50 mph is 9.7% as shown below.

- The gradeability at 40 mph is 11.7% as shown below.

All the above values are show in table.
| Sl.No | Speed | Energy storage disabled. | All systems enabled |
| 1 | 60 | 1.50% | 8.10% |
| 2 | 50 | 2% | 9.70% |
| 3 | 40 | 2.50% | 11.70% |
It can be oserved that in both cases as speed decreases the gradeability increases.
