Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1) EV_defaults_in with 500 kg of cargo mass

Drive cycle has been updated to CYC_FTP with 1 drive cycle:

The distance covered is 17.8 km for 1 drive cycle and the SOC is 60% at the end of the drive cycle.

On increasing the number of drive cycle to 2, The distance covered is 35.5 km and SOC is 80% at the end of the drive cycle.

With 3 drive cycles the distance covered is 41.4 km and the full battery is utilized. The soc is 0%.

Conclusion: For EV_defaults_in file with a cargo mass of 500kg and full utilization of the battery the vehicle can cover a distance of upto 41.4 km only.

The target of 45 km cannot be reached.

2) Change of Battery capacity:

For previous simulation the number of modules has been 25 and the nominal voltage is 308 V.

The Distance achieved for this battery capacity for 3 drive cycles is 41.4 km

On increasing the number of modules to 28, the nominal voltage has been increased to 345 V

The distance covered for 3 drive cycles under full utilization of the battery is 46.3 km.

Conclusion: On increasing the capacity of the battery the target distance of 45 kms can be achieved. On further increase in battery capacity, the target distance can be achieved without the full utilization of the battery.

3) Gradability test on Prius_jpn_defaults_in :

Load the file PRIUS_JPN_defaults_in

Select the Gradeability test and go to grade options

Change the speed to 10 mph and run the simulation

The gradeability is 30.3%

Now increase the speed to 40mph and check the gradeability

The gradeability is decreased to 11.7%

on further increasing the speed to 60 mph,

the gradeability has been decreased further to 8.1%

Conclusion: The gradeability test has been performed on PRIUS_JPN_defaults_in for various speed and it is found that for increased speed the gradeability decreases.
