Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following
- For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
- In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
ADVISOR tool was run by typing advisor in MATLAB command window after that we chose metric unit as the unit for all measurements, according to the question we loaded the EV_defaults_in file and changed the cargo mass to 500kg and left all other parameters unchanged as required by the question, after continuing we went to select FTP drive cycle as asked in the question, first we went with only 1 cycle where the travelled distance was 17.8kms while SOC went from 100% to around 60% when the no.of cycles was increased to two total distance travelled became 35.5kms and SOC came down to about 18% and when the no.of cycles was made 3 total distance travelled became 41.4kms and SOC became 0% which concludes that the vehicle with 500kgs of cargo on FTP drive cycle can not travel for 45kms.
Here in this case when we try to change the battery capacity of the model by increasing no.of cell modules and keeping all other parameters same we find that with 26 modules we can achieve total distance of 42.7kms when SOC becomes zero while with 27 modules we travelled 44.8kms when SOC became zero while a distance of 46.3kms was covered when SOC became zero, though with 38 modules we covered a distance of 53.3kms with SOC being around 18%. Hence with increase in battery capacity more range could be achieved.

In the third case we loaded PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in with no change in the parameters and went with UDDS cycle and checked the gradeability test in the gradeability option speed was set to 60mph for duration of 10 sec similarly later on it was taken to 75mph in 10 secs and later to 90mph in 10sec and the gradeability results are tabulated.

With this we can observe that gradeability of the vehicle is inversely proportional to the vehicle speed.
