Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following

  1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
  1. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
  1. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

Solution-

  1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Step1- select load file type as EVC_defaults_in as given in the question and take cargo weight as 500 then click on continue.

Step 2:-

Select the drive cycle as FTP and RUN the simulation

Step 3:-

Result- As the distance travelled is 17.8 km after running at the given scenario hence the vehicle cannot travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

changing the battery capacity as keeping the enery storage as ESS_PB65_FocusEV

After running simulation while keeping all the parameters and drive cycle same as last case.

Here the distance travelled is same as 17.8 km but SOC% (2nd plot) is not zero as the last case.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

Step 1- selected the load file as PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in

step2-

click on gradeability test and then select grade options

Step 3- kept speed as 55 mph for 10 seconds

Run the simulation-

Gradeability is 1.7% at speed as 55 mph and time for 10 seconds

Now changing the speed and time as 75 mph and 30 seconds-

After running simulation - gradeability is 0.7% at 75 mph for 30 seconds

Now changing the values and keeping the speed and time as- 145 mph for 10 seconds

after running the simulation-

As we can see the gradeability is not shown for the values as speed as 145 mph for 10 seconds, So from the above scenario it can be concluded that the system failed this time and did not pass the gradeability test at the given values.

Concluding that gradeability decreases with respect to the increasing speed.

Parameters Vehicle A Vehicle B Vehicle C
Speed in mph 55 75 145
Duration in seconds 10 30 10
Gradeability in % 1.7 0.7 N/A
