Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

MODULE 1#

1. For the EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with an FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

in this case, we are going to observe whether the vehicle travels 45km using FTP cycle and has a cargo mass of about 500kg instead of 136kg which is the default in EV_default_in

STEP1: from the Matlab use the advisor command in the command window and open the advisor tool, a GUI will open, click on start to open the model

once we open the model, find the EV_default_in model in the load file, select this model and change the cargo mass of 500kg instead of defaulted value 136kg and do not change the remaining defaulted parameters .now click on continue a new window will open, in this window, we are going to change driving cycle and here we use FTP driving cycle and 1 cycles we are going to use .once this is done set all other parameters as it is .click on the run which is below in the current window. once this is done we are going to analyze the results whether the vehicle travels 45 km or not

RESULTS#

from the results, it's clear that the vehicle travels only 11km when the cargo mass is increased to 500kg and using 1 drive cycle

let us use more than one drive cycle to see whether it travels 45km or not

results#

from the results, it is clear after using the 5 FTP drive cycle the vehicle covered only 41.4 km but not 45 km also from the soc plot it's clear that soc has fallen to zero at 5500 sec hence there is no charge left in the battery and simulation stops.

MODULE2#

in the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

now we are going to change the battery module from 25 modules to 30 modules and will see if the vehicle travels 45km or not

RESULTS#

#

from the results, its clear in a single charge vehicle travels only 17.8km after increasing the capacity of the battery from 25 to 30 module

from the soc, it is clear that the battery is not fully drained some charge remains left .now we are going to increase no of cycles to 7 and will see where our simulation stops and how much distance it will cover in 7 cycles.

from the plot, it's clear after changing the battery module and the FTP driving cycle the vehicle travels a distance of 49.1 km.

MODULE3#

Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file:

from the load file, we are going to change the vehicle form ev_default_in to PRIUS_JPN_IN.in this vehicle we are going to perform a gradability test.

we select gradability test icon in advisor too and set wherein we have set the speed limit to 55mph and we have seen at 55mph the gradability is 1.7% this is our first case see the plot below

in the 2nd case, we have decreased the speed to 45mph and analyzed our results the gradability increased with a decrease in speed

from the above analysis we have seen while increasing the speed the gradability decreases and with a decrease in speed the gradability increases hence we can say gradability is inverse proportional to speed.
