Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Use the ADVISOR tool and simulate the following

1. For the EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with an FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in the table and conclude.

Solution:

Step1: Download the advisor tool.

Step2: Setup the path for ADVISOR tool path

Step3: Type >>advisor in the command window of MatLab

it will open a GUI or advisor 2002 - Advanced Vehicle Simulator >> Click on start.

PS1. For the EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with an FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Solution:

Load File: EV_defaults_in

after selecting the EV_defaults_in below shown GUI will open automatically.

Change the cargo mass: 500 kg

Click on Continue and Select the FTP drive cycle and # of cycles is 3

because 1 cycle is 17.77 km but we are testing for 45km so drive cycle is required more

Click on RUN to test the range.

And the answer is NO For the EV_defaults_in file if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, the vehicle travel can not able to travel45 km with the FTP drive cycle check the SOC graph it is zero at 41.4 km.

PS2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Solution:

Now I changed the battery type to ESS_PB28 battery and the number of modules is 28 and the total capacity is 297V.

now run the same model.

Observation:

Now Distance is 46.1 km Changing the capacity of the battery will increase the distance range.

PS3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in a table and conclude.

Solution:

Change the Model to PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in

Click continue and click on Gradeability Test.

run on different grade % and prepared a table.

0% - 100% gradeability Range varies from 17.8km to 12.0 km

Conclusion:

0% - 100% gradeability Range varies from 17.8km to 12.0 km

if we add the gradeability fuel economy will also decrease.

heat will generate more if the gradeability is more.
