Challenge

Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

*Download the advisor tool and go to command window and type "advisor" and run it .

*The advisor gui will pop up, click metric and then start.

*Go to load file and choose EV_defaults_in

*Now change the cargo mass to 500kg and click continue.

*Now simulation parameters window will open, there change the drive cycle to CYC_FTP and no.of cycles is 3 then run it.

*The result window opens.

Result-

The vehcile can travel to a distance of 41.4 km at 3 cycles.

If the cycles increased above 3 cycles, the distance dosent change increase

Hence the vehcile cant go above 41.4 km with FTP drive cycle at 500kg.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

In the below case we are going to increase the battery capacity to 60v and repeat the same simulation with cargo mass 500kg and drive cycle CYC_FTP at 3 cycles.

Result-

Thus we can see that when the battery capacity is increased the vehcile travelling distance can be increased.

The dsitance can be traveled is 53.3 km at 60v

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

In vehcile input screen change the load file to "PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in" and click continue.

Now click on Gradeability test and click grade option, then change the speed of the vehcile to 35mph, 55mph, & 75mph. respectively.

Above is the output for 35mph, and gradeability is 13%

Above is the result of 55mph and gradeability is 8.9%

Above is the result of 75mph and gradeability is 5.3%

Conclusion-

Hence we see that the gradeability increases when the speed is increased and decreases when the speed is reduced.
