Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Obj- use advisor tool and simulate the following conditions and analyze the results.

1. Putting cargo mass 500 kg and input as EV_defaults_in to check whether vehicle can travel 45 km with FTP drive cycle

2. For the above case change battery capacity

3. Perform a gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn

Answer-

Part 1

Change the cargo mass to 500 kg

Click on the continue button after new window simulation parameter will pop up

in simulation parameter window we change the cycle to CYC_FTP

below where # given we can change the driving cycles

for 1nos cycles

for 2 nos cycles

for 3 nos cycles

distance travelled by vehicle in 3 drive cycles is 41.4 km using 100% SOC

minimum distance covered by vehicle is 17.8 km for 1 driving cycle and maximum distance covered is 41.4 km which consumes 100% battery in 3 driving cycles.

EV_default cannot travel distance of 45km due to insufficient SOC

part 2

For the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

1. in vehicle input window we will change the capacity of battery from energy storage which will open in 1st

2. "#mod of V nom" decides battery capacity so we will change the module number of batteries.

a new simulation parameter window will open, here we will change the drive cycle to 2 or 3

after completing the simulation for each drive cycle we will observe the change in distance of vehicle travel

we repeat this simulation by changing the battery module and drive cycle

select gradeability test and click on the grade option box, a new dialogue box will open.

in grade option box we can change speed or duration wrt our simulation

here we change speed and duration

click all systems enabled

results for duration 10 second

1. 30 mph

gradeability = 14.7 %

2. 40 mph

gradeability = 11.7%

3. 50 mph

gradeability = 9.7%

for duration 20 seconds

1. 30 mph

gradeability = 17.7%

2. 40 mph

gradeability = 14.6%

3. 50 mph

gradeability = 12.4%

from the above results it is evident that with increase in speed there is a decrease in gradeability.
