Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

AIM:

Use the ADVISOR tool and simulate the following:

  • For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
  • For the EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
  • Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in a table and conclude.

ADVISOR NREL’s ADvanced VehIcle SimulatOR, is a set of model, data, and script text files for use with Matlab and Simulink. It is designed for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of conventional, electric, and hybrid vehicles. ADVISOR also provides a backbone for the detailed simulation and analysis of user defined drivetrain components, a starting point of verified vehicle data and algorithms from which to take full advantage of the modeling flexibility of Simulink and analytic power of MATLAB.

Question 1.

After opening advisor tool window change cargo mass to 500 kg and keeping all menu at default.

after click continue to open the simulation parameters, the simulation parameter consists of different drive cycle and to create a individual own drive cycle by giving different data to the simulink parameter like, acceleration test, gradeability test, parametric study, etc.

select CYC_FTP in drive cycle menu.

Keepin no. of cycle 1 .Click Run.

Results are:-

Simillarly after changing no. of cycle to 4

we found that Distance(KM) - 41.4

RESULT :- No,the vehicle cannot travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle and 500kg cargo weight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 2 -

open the advisor tool and click start to open the vehicle input in advisor simulator.
search for 'ev_defaults_in' file from load file and click the file to open.

change in battery capacity to 20 25 and 35 module.

we found

S no. Battery capacity max Distance covered
1. at 20 module 33.5 Km
2. at 25 module 41.4 Km
3. at 35 module 49.1 km

Figure :- showing data at FOR NUMBER OF CYCLES IS EQUAL TO 4.

Conclusion - whenever the battery capacity is less then 25 modules, the vehicle gets less distance covered
whenever the battery capacity is more then 30 modules, the vehicle gets more distance covered
because the battery capacity which is power or energy storage that the vehicle is depend on to travel the certain covered.

Question 3 -

open the advisor tool and click start to open the vehicle input in advisor simulator.
search for 'prius_jpn_defaults_in' file from load file and click the file to open.

In next window CYC_FTP cycle is selected.

  1. NOW CONSIDER "ALL SYSTEM ENABLED" FROM "ENERGY STORAGE DISABLED AND KEEP SPEED VALUE AT 55 mph 10 mph and 25 mph.

results

1. 10 mph 30.3%
2 25 mph 16.5%
3 55mph 08.9%

Conclusion :-

if speed is less, the gradeability percentage is more
if speed is more, the gradeability percentage is less
so speed and gradeability percentage are inversely proportional to each other
