Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Aim :
- use the advisor tool for simulation
Objective :
- 1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
- 2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- 3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in fil and Compare your results in table and conclude.
Theory :
what is advisor tool and its benefits ?
ADVISOR provides the. vehicle engineering community with an easy-to-use, flexible, yet robust and supported analysis package for advanced vehicle modeling. It is. primarily used to quantify the fuel economy, the performance, and the emissions of vehicles that use alternative technologies including fuel.
Benefits :
- estimate the fuel economy of vehicles that have not yet been built.
- learn about how conventional, hybrid, or electric vehicles use (and lose) energy throughout their drivetrains.
- compare relative tailpipe emissions produced on a number of cycles
- Evaluate an energy managment strategy for your hybrid vehicle fuel conveter
- optimize the gear ratio in your transmission to minimize the fuel use or maximize the perfoemance, etc.
Model in Advisor are :
- Mostly empirical ,relying on drivetrain componenet input /output relationships measured in the laboratory
- quasi_static,using data collecting in steady state(for example, constant torque and speed )tests and correcting them for transient effects such as the rotational inertia of drivetrain components.
# First objective :
- load the file name "EV_defaults_in".
- add the cargo mass as 500 Kg.
- Check can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude
Load the file "EV_defaults_in",add the cargo mass 500 kg

Add the drive cycle ''CYC_FTP '':

- This FTP drive cycle covers 17.77 Km distance in time 2477 sec
- we are try to analyze the soc hist data for FTP drive cycle
- for one FTP drive cycle the it covers 17.8 km distance, still the soc not comes to zero which mean battery is not totally drain

so,we analyze for two FTP Drive cycle,it covers 35.5 Km ,still the soc not comes to zero that means battery is not totally drain

then we try for three drive cycle,it covers 41.4 Km and the soc goes to zero that mean battery is totally drain.it will not covers the further distance.

From the above data we can conclude,
- vehicle model "EV_defaults_in" is not able to covers or travel 45 Km with FTP drive cycle.
#Second Objective :
- use the above vehicle data
- try to change the battery capacity and repeat the simulation
changing the battery capacity by increasing the module

for 26 module and two drive cycle

for 27 module and two drive cycle

for 28 module and two drive cycle

for 26 module and Three drive cycle

for 27 module and Three drive cycle

for 28 module and Three drive cycle

Observation data
for 2 drive cycle :
| battery mod | voltage | Km | Battery speed |
| 26 | 321 | 35.5 | 286 |
| 27 | 333 | 35.5 | 297 |
| 28 | 345 | 35.5 | 308 |
for 3 drive cycle :
| battery mod | voltage | Km | battery weight |
| 26 | 321 | 42.7 | 286 |
| 27 | 333 | 44.8 | 297 |
| 28 | 345 | 46.3 | 308 |
Form the above data we concluded that ,
- with increasing the battery module we can achieve more distance travel
- also with increasing the battery module weight also increases
- we achieve 45 km distance travel with FTP drive cycle by incresing the battery module.we can set battery module as 28.
- for two drive cycle with increasing battery module distance remain same
#Third Objective :
- load the "PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in" file
- Perform gradeability test
after clicking on the gradability tool it open the advanced option and enter the speed

we check the gradabilty by speed
for 20 mph -32.2 Km/hr - Gradability 19.8 %

for 25 mph - 40.2 Km/hr - Gradability 16.5 %

for 30 mph - 48.3Km/hr - Gradability 14.7 %

for 35 mph - 50.6 Km/hr - Gradability 13 %

for 40 mph - 64.4 Km/hr - Gradability 11.7 %

for 20 sec duration :
for 20 mph -32.2 Km/hr - Gradability 22.9 %

for 25 mph 40.3 Km/hr - Gradability 19.7 %

for 30 mph -48.3 Km/hr - Gradability 17.7 %

for 35 mph -56.3 Km/hr - Gradability 16 %

for 40 mph - 64.4 Km/hr - Gradability 14.6 %

Observation data :
for 10 sec duration
| speed (mph) | speed (kmph) | speed gradability (%) |
| 20 | 32.2 | 19.8 |
| 25 | 40.2 | 16.5 |
| 30 | 48.3 | 14.7 |
| 35 | 56.3 | 13.0 |
| 40 | 64.4 | 11.7 |
for 20 sec duration
| speed (mph) | speed (kmph) | speed gradability (%) |
| 20 | 32.2 | 22.9 |
| 25 | 40.2 | 19.7 |
| 30 | 48.3 | 17.7 |
| 35 | 56.3 | 16.0 |
| 40 | 64.4 | 14.6 |
- From the above data we can conclude that with increasing the speed there will be decrease in gradability
Conclusion :
- With vehicle model "EV_defaults_in" is not able to covers or travel 45 Km in FTP drive cycle.
- In second objective we can achieve or cover 45 Km distance by increasing the module
- In third objective as increasing the speed gradability decreases.
