Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1. Given Statement: For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Advisor tool is Adavanced Vehicle Simulator primarly used for modeling the vehicles in steady state.

In the dropdown list the EV_Defaults_in is chosen and cargo mass is changed to 500kg.

Now the drive cycle is chosen as CYC_FTP and it is run for 2 drive cycles.

Therefore it can travel a 22 miles (35.40km).

Now the drive cycles are changed to 3

Now it can be obseved that distance travelled is 25.7 miles (41.36 km).

It can be concluded that The vehicle cannot travel for a speed of 45km with the current FTP cycle because the state of charge of the battery has reached to zero after completion of three drive cycles.

2. Given Statement: In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Number of battey modules is changed from 25 to 35, therefore nominal voltage of the battery has changed from 308V to 432V.

For three CYC_FTP drive cycles. Now the distance travelled by the vehicle is 33.1 miles.

Now the 4 drive cycles are chosen and the vehicle can travel up to 35.1 miles (56.48 km) it can be observed that before completion of 4 drive cycles the SoC of battery reached to zero.

3. Given Statement: Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in table and conclude.

The gradeability test is performed by considering the HEV, EV and IC Engine for a speed of 20mph.

For HEV vehicle at a distance of 20 mph the gradeabilty observed was 19.8%

Now we have considered the EV by disabling the Engine than the gradeablity was 19.8% for 20 mph.

Now we have considered IC Engine alone the gradeabilty was found to be NIL for 20 mph.
