Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Simulation of ADVISOR Tool using MATLAB
Aim: To Test gradiability and Drive cycle using ADVISOR TOOL in matlab
Objective:
- To simulate FTP DRIVE CYCLE using ADVISOR tool
- To simulate gradiability test fot Toyota Prius using ADVISOR tool
Platform used
- Advisor tool, Matlab
ADVISOR, Advanced vehicle simulator was first developed in November 1994 at the national renewable energy laboratory. It was designed as an analysis tool to assist the US department energy (DOE) in developing technology for hybrid electric vehicles through the hybrid vehicle propulsion system contracts with FORD, General Motors, Daimler Chrysler. Its primary role is to highlight the system level interactions of hybrid and electric vehicle components and their impacts on the vehicle performance and fuel economy.
- For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle?

EV_default_in is a simple electric vehicle completed driven by battery pack as a single power source

For checking the EVs range if the cargo weight is 500, we are changing the cargo weight to 500 and keeping all other parameters constant. And by selecting the FTP Drive cycle ( federal test procedure).

We got 17.77 km as the range or the vehicle travelled 17.77km since a single FTP drive cycle has only have a range of 17.77. So we are now increasing the drive cycle for at least 2.

After increasing the drive cycles cycle, the EV runs for 41.4km and run out of charge or the EV range is 41.4 which is less than our targeted 45km with this battery pack.

We also got a warning message which shows EV range exceeded.
Conclusion
Wecan understand that the vechicle with default spec has only have a EV range of 41.4km only. Inordered to achieve the 45km range, we have to increase the capacity of Battery pack.
- Changing the battery capacity and repeating the simulation

We have increased the battery module from 25 to 30 for achieving our required EV range.

After increasing the battery capacity, the vehicle achieves our desired EV range of 45km.
- Gradiability Test for Toyota Prius

Toyota prius is a full hybrid electric automobile developed and manufactured by Toyota since 1997 initially offered as a 4-door sedan and a 5-door fastback hatchback since 2003.

we are conducting the gradability test at a speed range of 55mph on CYS_UDDS drive cycle.

We got a gradeability of 1.7% at 88.5kmph.

we have repeated the gradeability test at lower speed of 40mph (64.4kmph) we got 2.5% gradeability

At higher speed of 96.6kmph, we got 1.5% gradeability
Conclusion
From the gradeability test, we can conclude that, gradeability decreases with increase in speed.
