ADVISOR Tool

TARGET:-

1. To perform some basic advisor tool condition for the vehicle EV_defaults file
2. To perform gradability test for PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

OBJECTIVE:-

1. to perform some advisor with a cargo weight of 500kg with all other factor being kept as default and check it can cross 45km FTP drive cycle.
2. to perform the same objective 1 with an increasing the battery pack and to observe and to conclude it in a table
3. to perform the gradability test for the vehicle PRIUS_Jpn_defaults file and compare it with the general EV file.

THEORY:-

1. There are 3 types of vehicles present
   • Internal Combustion engine
   • Electrical Vehicles
     • Front-wheel drive
     • Rear-wheel drive
     • Four-wheel drive
   • Hybrid Electrical vehicles
     • Series hybrid vehicle
     • Parallel hybrid vehicle
     • Series-Parallel hybrid vehicle
2. We are using the advisor tool because it helps in the calculation of steady-state results. ADVISOR stands for ADvance VechIcle SimulatOR used to construct models that use macro statistics from duty cycle and cycles averaged efficiencies of components for near-instantaneous prediction of fuel consumption and performance, but in this case, we are using this for testing hybrid electrical vehicles.

SOLUTIONS:-

1. To perform this experiment follow these steps:-
   • Open Matlab and then type Advisor in the command prompt
   • After opening the advisor tool change the unit measurement to metric from us version
   • Then search for the EV_defaults in the above vehicle type.
   • Keeping all the parameter same change only the cargo weight to 500KG then proceed to the next option.   
   • In this window change the option to CYC_FTP model.
   • Keeping the number of cycles as #1 run and find out how much km this vehicle can be run i.e., 17Km (as there is no warning occurred).
   • This drive cycle will fail as it is less than 45KM.
   • We have to override the cycle times and observe that can this vehicle be able to run without any warning, by changing this #cycle to 2.
   • On this condition, the Vehicle also fails and is only being able to run up to 37Km and it has many warnings.
2. This solution is related to the above experiment and the steps for this are below:-
   • Open Matlab and then type Advisor in the command prompt
   • After opening the advisor tool change the unit measurement to metric from us version
   • Then search for the EV_defaults in the above vehicle type.
   • Keeping all the parameter same change only the cargo weight to 500KG and adding some extra power i.e., I have changed the power cells to 38 then proceed to the next option.
   • As it will still fail at #1 drive cycle because it will only be travelled to 17 Km and the required distance is 45 Km.
   • Changing the drive cycle to #2 then running the simulation we have found that it was all completed 45Km.

1. In this, we have to perform the gradability test by the help of ADVISOR tool because it gives us the proper and some more accurate so the process is below:-
   • Open Matlab and then type Advisor in the command prompt
   • After opening the advisor tool change the unit measurement to metric from us version
   • Then search for the PRIUS_Jpn_defaults in the above vehicle type.
   • Keeping all the parameter same, then proceed to the next option.
   • On the next page keep all the things same, check the box near to gradability test.
   • After that click the grade option, on that change, the speed option and which will decide the gradability of that vehicle and set the run speed to 50(anything can be taken) click ok.
   • Then run the simulation and note the gradability with all other parameters.
   • Repeat this process for around 2-3 times and note down the observation.

CONCLUSIONS:-

1. In this, we have concluded that regardless of any number of repetition of cycles the EV_defaults can not make up to 45kms with all the parameters being constant and with the cargo mass of 500Kg.
2. This can only be achieved from increasing the power capacity to 38 cells and changing the drive cycle to 2, and in this, the warning of EV failure doesn't appear.
3. Keeping the time constant and constantly increasing the speed the gradability decreased in some cases as in 40mph but it increases with 10 and 20mph.
