Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

AIM: To extract the midsurface of all the components and doing geomtrical clean up and meshing the surfaces as per the given quality criteria.

PROCEDURE:

1.Firstly goto FILE -OPEN then go to downloads import the model .

2.Go to property tab make sure the only working property should be visible on the window .

3.extract the mid surface for the particular property.

STEPS TO EXTRACT MID SURFACE:

-TOPO MODE-FACES-OFFSET

-select the faces by keeping the selection mode into feature angle (feature angle is nothing but a selecting the faces of upper layer in one shot;)

-Then enter the OFFSET value as per the the thickness and the vector direction is very important if the dircetion is in opposite then keep "-" infront of the offset value so that direction will change.

AFTER EXTRACTION OF MID SURFACE:

-Make sure only mid surface should be visible on the window by selecting "i NOT" so that create new property in property tab then apply the visible midsurface to the new property.

-Then give thickness to the midsurface in "T value". so that the elements will be appeared on the surfaces also

GEOMETRY CLEAN UP:

-Supress all unwanted lines on the surfaces by using the option called "TOPO-FACES-CUT(right click)". so that the topo lines will turn into orange colour.

-Remove all unwanted hot points by selecting "TOPO-HOT POINTS-DELETE"

CREATING MESH ON SURFACES:

-Create small boxes on the surfaces by using options like CUT, PROJECT CUT.(CUT is nothing but a creating line between node to node and PROJECT CUT is creactin cut between node to line)

-select MESH MODE-MESH GENERATION -BEST MES

QUALITY CRITERIA:

-Te mes flow sould be in a proper manner and also try to reduce as many as trais and te main tumb rules are

-No trias sould be at free ede

-No opposite trias must be tere

-No rotational quad

-No trais sould touc eac other.

if tere are opposie trais use paste option and to remove trais use split option and alos swap option so try to reduce element failures as muc as posssible.

CONCLUSION:

enece finally mid surafce as been extracted ,after completion of eometry clean up , mes as been enerated on te surfaces by followin element quality criteria.
