Week 2 Railwheel and Track
OBJECTIVE Perform a static structural analysis on the railwheel and track setup
- Case 1 Multiply the bearing load by 5 times and compare the results with the load of 100000N .Compare the total deformation , Equivalent stress and the life under both the loads.
- Case 2 Implement a user defined results and calculate the Total deformation from this results and check if is the same as that obtained by the inbuilt result by ANSYS for a load of 100000N
PRODECURE
- Create Static Strutucal Analysis and in engineering data select the material as structural steel.

- Import the geometry and check in Spaceclaim for any irregularties
- Then open ANSYS mechanical

- Contacts Two contacts created between the railwheel and track by selecting the faces .The contact type is frictional with friction
- First contacts created between the railwheel and track by selecting the faces .The Contact type is fritional with friction coefficient of 0.3

- Second contacts created between the railwheel and shaft .The contact type is frictionless
- Joints Three joints created in whole geometry
- create a fixed joint on track as it is fixed on which the wheel moves.

- Create a planar joint on the wheel as it moves in a straight line on the track.

- Create a translational joint on the shaft as it translates in the X - direction along with the wheel
- Mesh Mesh the model with element size of 35mm and by using the face sizing option fac eof track and wheel also mesh in 35mm to get a proper mesh.

- Analysis Setting The simulation runs for 5 steps .So the number of steps is set as 5 Define by time large deflection is set to on solver type direct and output controls switch on for stress , strain , nodal force etc

RESULT The analysis runs successfully and results obtained
Case 1 In this case the result evaluated for the bearing load of 100000N and 500000n
A for load of 100000N
A bearing load of 100000N applied on the wheel.

Join Displacement Translational of 500mm given to the shaft

Equivalent Stress Max 96.514 Mpa

Total Deformation Max - 999.08mm

Life Minimum - 521670

Total Deformation

B For load of 5x100000N = 500000N
A bearing load of 500000N applied on the wheel .

Joint Displacement Translational of 500mm given to the shaft

Equivalent Stress Max - 403.29Mpa

Total Deformation Max - 999.28mm

Life Minimum - 2636.5

Total Deformation

Case 2 User Defined result for maximum deformation is taken out for 100000N bearing load and then compared with inbuilt ansys deformation result.
For user defined result for max deformation using a expression

Ansys Total Deformation result - 999.18mm

User defined Total Deformation result - 999.18mm

CONCLUSION
- Result evaluated for the bearing load of 100000N and 500000N
- User defined result for maximum deformation is taken out for 100000N bearing load
- The result is accurate and similar for both the ansys inbuilt result and user defined result
