Week 2 - Converging diverging nozzle

  • Aim - To perform flow simulation through convergent divergent nozzle.
  • For the following boundary conditions,

  • At Inlet, Pressure = 1atm and Temperature = 300K. The outlet pressure= 0.027 atm

  • In the operating conditions, consider the reference pressure to be zero.

OBJECTIVE:-

1. To perform the flow of simulation of convergenece nozzle

2. To plot the pressure, temperature profiles.

3. to plot the mach number.

STEPS OF SOLUTION:-

1. GEOMETRY.

2. MESH

3. SETUP

4. SOLUTIONS

5. RESULTS.

INTRODUCTION OF CONVERGENCE NOZZLES:-

Convergent nozzles accelerate subsonic fluids. If the nozzle pressure ratio is high enough, then the flow will reach sonic velocity at the narrowest point (i.e., the nozzle throat). In this situation, the nozzle is said to be choked.

INTRODUCTION OF DIVERGENT NOZZLE:-

This nozzle configuration is called a convergent-divergent, or CD, nozzle. In a CD nozzle, the hot exhaust leaves the combustion chamber and converges down to the minimum area, or throat, of the nozzle. The throat size is chosen to choke the flow and set the mass flow rate through the system.

SOLUTION PROCEDURE:-

GEOMETRY:- First we have taken the 10 cm line and height both sides 3.5cm and the middle point we have taken the 1cm. after that we have used the design option and select the triple arc three point method joined the three points. Actually i have taken geometry in cm.

PLOT OF GEOMETRY:-

2. MESHING:- To before the mesh performance we have given the named selections that is inlet, outlet, axis, walls. in this concept i have used trigular method and mesh size taken 1mm. after that i have checked the mesh quantity.

SETUP PROCEDURE:-

1. ENERGY EQUATION ON

2. VISICOUS MODEL K-EPSILON

3. PRESSURE INLET - 1ATM

4. TEMPERATURE - 300K

5. PRESSURE OUTLET - 0.027

6. INITILIZE

7. STEADY STATE

8. DENSITY BASED

9. RUN CALCULATION:- 1000

SOLUTIONS:-

Temperatutr profile we have seen the inlet temperature 372.423k and outlet temperture 279.664k so in this plot inlet temperture is high compared to outlet temperature.

inlet pressure = 5640pa, oulet pressure = -88959pa

velocity increase to 0 to 217.912m/s.

Conclusions:-

1. in thsi concept velocity will increases

2. tempearture increases at inlet

3. pressure decreases.

4.Run a steady state simulation on converging diverging nozzle

5.Extracted necessory contours and plotted the variation of flow charecteristics like pressure , temperature, velocity and mach number

It is determined after analysing the geometry of the convergent-divergent nozzle section area that fluid characteristics like velocity, pressure, and temperature are necessary for the dependence of the flow section and the degree of expansion.Along the nozzle's length, velocity rises.from the contours, higher inlet temperature and pressure.Continually simulate the diverging convergent nozzle.Plot the changes in flow variables like pressure, temperature, velocity, and Mach number after extracting the appropriate contours.
