Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
Aim: To set up the mesh on a Valve using ANSA Software.
Procedure:
Initially, the 3D model is imported in the software.

Next, Geometry is checked for various issues related to open edges etc., in the checks manager.

After geometry check-up, results are analysed which shows that single cons error, and it needs to be fixed.

Each of the error con can be viewed by selecting on it. Multiple selection can also be done.

The wireframe view better shows the cons.

The patches can be fixed by using various methods.
Following image shows using the Existing surf option in the New face tab.

Following image shows using the Coons option in the New face tab.

Following image shows using the Fitted option in the New face tab.

Fill Hole Parameters option is also available to join te in between holes or patches in the geometry.

To fix a non-uniform hole, it is divided in 2 parts and done one by one.
The steps are shown in the below images-

The final surface are clearing all the con error is shown below-

Checks Manager also sown no error after completing.

Different parts in the geometry are assigned property id. Proper tools are used to accurately select the target parts for specific property id.

For meshing whole geometry of 5mm. The parameters and macros are given required values.

The required mesh size is also defined in the Mesh parameters tab.

Minimum and maximum mesh lengths are defined in the qualit criteria tab.

Finally the Spot Mesh tool is used for finalizing the mesh on whole of the body.

Result:
5mm mesh:

3mm

1mm:

Conclusion:
- The geometry surface needs to be cleaned thoroughly in order to get a better mesh and it should not include any open cons.
- As the mesh size is reduced, number of elements in the domain increases subsequently leading to increased computational load.
- To better capture the curves in the geometry mesh shuld be smaller enough than the body. As seen in the above example the spring’s geometry is better captured with the mesh size of 1mm.
