Challenge

Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

AIM

To mesh the given ansa model with a target length of 1mm ,3 mm and 5mm respectively.

OBJECTIVES

  • Learn different model cleaning techniques
  • Checks for geometrical error
  • To regenerate mssing elements on a model using existing surface, COONS, Fitted and using fill holes
  • Geometry cleaning
  • PID

PROCEDURE

  • Import the given geometry into ANSA preprocessor
  • In the cheks tab at the top - Select Geometry - Make sure the given model is in visibilie mode - Select the required checks - Click execute to run the check
  • All the errors appear (single cons, triple cons etc.)
  • Under the Faces Tab - New - In the dialogue box - Select the required option for model regeneration - select the COONS - Click the mouse middle button
  • Use the different options under New Face (existing surface, COONS and Fitted) also using fill hole complete the geometry
  • To clean the regenerated geometry delete the nearby lines and newly generated model to remove unwanted small geometries which may cause an error in meshing
  • Near the wireframe selection at the bottom in the drop down icon ensure PID selection - Select Properties tab in the top - Right click - Select NEW - Give a name - OK
  • A new PID will be created
  • Select the PID - Right click - Apply - Select the required model for the PID - Middle mouse button
  • Re-Check using the Check Geometry for more errors
  • Delete common sections and use undelete option if necessary and remove the unwanted geometries
  • After cleaning under the mesh section - Select the perimeter and macros length
  • In the mesh parameters tab select the required target lenth, max and min min length, and choose element type as tria
  • In the quality section set the min and max length
  • Using spot mesh tab mesh the whole model one by one
  • Change the mesh target length to 1mm , 3mm and 5mm

OBSERVATION

  • WWhile deleting unwanted PID common entities may also get deleted (use undelete to regenerate the deleted sections)
  • With higher mesh length the model gets deformed and with a mesh lenth of 5mm some regions of the spring becomes planar
  • The mesh length selected should be less than the minimum dimention of the entities

RESULTS

  • The meshing of the given model is complete
