2. 1. State the “Input” steps involved in RCC design.
2. Explain the difference between Fixed and Enforced support condition in STAADPro.
ANSWER:
1. State the “Input” steps involved in RCC design.
- Geometry
- Properties
- Materials
- Specification
- Support
- Loading and Load combination
- Analysis
- Design
2. Explain the difference between Fixed and Enforced support condition in STAADPro.
When the Fixed type of support is specified, for those degrees of freedom which are to be treated as fully restrained, STAAD assumes the displacements to be known quantities whose value is zero. Hence, those degrees of freedom are not considered for the stiffness matrix, and their value is not calculated.
When the Enforced type of support is specified, for those degrees of freedom which are to be treated as restrained, STAAD assigns a spring with a very high spring stiffness - translational stiff springs for translational restraints, and rotational stiff springs for rotational restraints. Those degrees of freedom which are free to displace are assigned springs of zero stiffness. Hence, for all the 6 degrees of freedom at such supports, the displacements are calculated. The ones which have a stiff spring will end up having a negligible displacement, and those with zero-stiffness-springs will have a displacement based on the structure geometry, properties and loading.
3. 1. Explain the steps involved in analysis of a model using STAAD Pro sequentially.
2. Explain the two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software.
3. Elaborate the different support conditions in STAAD Pro.
4. How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab?
5. Explain the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro.
ANSWER:
1. Explain the steps involved in analysis of a model using STAAD Pro sequentially.
- Read/Study Drawing (Plan/Ele/Sec)
- Input Geometry
- Input Properties
- Input (Specs/Constants/Support)
- Input Load and Load combinations
- Input Design Standards
- Specify Analysis Type
- Run Analysis
- Verify Results
- Design
- Represent Design as document and drawing.
2. Explain the two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software.
- Node by node method
- Structural wizard method
3. Elaborate the different support conditions in STAAD Pro.
- Fixed
- Pinned
- Fixed but
- Enforced
- Enforced but
- Multilinear spring
- Foundation
- Inclined
- Tension/Compression Only Springs
4. How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab?
- Create the staircase by using nodes in the geometry panel
- Aplly the support, loads and analysis
- After analysis go to postprocessing and select load combination
- Click on plate results and select plate stress contour
- Check Max absolute stress and Major principle stress, MX
5. Explain the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro.
- After the analysis click on post processing mode
- Go to deflection command and click on beam result
- Check SFD and BMD by click on the tool panel
Practical
1. Analyze the following structural elements and validate the results
A. Simply Supported Beam
a. A Simply supported beam with two point loads symmetrically placed
b. Span L = 20m
c. Load P = 50kN each
d. Both P located at 5m from each support
B.Fixed Beam
a. Span L = 16m
b. Uniformly Distributed Load w=9kN/m
PROCEDURE:
A. Simply Supported Beam
a. A Simply supported beam with two point loads symmetrically placed
b. Span L = 20m
c. Load P = 50kN each
d. Both P located at 5m from each support
Step 1: Nodes, Properties, Materials
- Open STAAD Pro software and create new file
- Create the node point at a distance in node table
- Right click on the mouse, a pop-up list is to be shown and select label option
- Now the dialog appeared click the check box of Nodal numbers now the node numbers is showned in working space

- Create a beam using beam table or Add beam option

- Assign the beam size in property tab

- Assign the material for beam in material tab

Step 3: Support, Loading
- Click support tab there is an option Create click that the create support dialog is appear
- One end support is pinned other end is roller support
- Click that support and assign it

- Now we applied the two load from each 5m at the support
- So create the two nodes at 5m and 15m distance

- Create the loads so click on the loading tab
- Select load case details and click add option
- Add dead load, live load, load combination

- Now add the loads 50kN at each distance nodes

- Assign the all loads

Step 3: Analysis, SFD, BMD
- Go to analysis tab and select analysis command
- The analysis/print command dialog box is appeared, select perform analysis option and click add button
- Now select run analysis

- After analysis select go to post processing mode option and click done
- The SFD and BMD diagram is select to shown
- Right click on the mouse, select label option and adjust the scale
- Go to annotate option select the results what we want to display

Beam results with graph:

B.Fixed Beam
a. Span L = 16m
b. Uniformly Distributed Load w=9kN/m
Step 1: Nodes, Properties, Materials
- Create a new file and give it a name
- Create nodes using grid or node table
- Right click on the mouse select label option and select the check box node numbers

- Next assign the property of beam

- Assign the material of the beam

Step 2: Support, Loading
- Go to the support tab and create the both ends support

- Then assign the uniform distributed load 9kN/m
- Go to the loading tab and create the DL, LL, Load combination

- Assign the given loads

Step 3: Analysis, SFD, BMD
- Go to analysis tab and set the perform analysis

- Then click run analysis, the file can be analyzed

- Now go to post processing mode
- The results are showned in workspace
- Select annotate option and tick the check what results we want see
