Week 2 Challenge
1.1 How will you design circulat section to column
- So in order to assign the circular section to column is discussed below
- CLick on option define
- THen there will be another dilogue box xalled property in that dialogue box select the option circular section from given list
- After that give desired diameter for that circular section
- And then click on add option
- And done , the circular section of desired diameter has been created
- After that select the circular section which we have just created then select the option that says assign
- And then click on the option apply and then OK
- By doing above procedure we can add the circular section of any diameter to our column
2.) How will you assign unit system to a .std model file
- At the initial stage
- In the middle of project
- At the in initial stage we can assign the units by clicking on the option units system
- We can choose the units system as metric and English and then create a model
- And the second way by which we can cchange the units system is while working on a modelso in order to change the unit systemis while working on a model so in order to change the units
- Above are the two ways by which we can change the units to a std.. model file
3.) What are the parameter to be specified to be specifieed while using bay frame option
- Length of the frame
- Width of the frame
- Height of the frame
- Number of bays along length, width, height
4.) Name few codal sttabndards incorporated in STAAD Pro software
- Euro code
- American codes
- ACI codes
- IS Codes
- BS codes
- ASCE Codes
- CAN/CSA CODES
5. How will you specify the design compressive strength for RCC section
- To specify the design compressive strength for RCC section.Below are the steps involved in designing the compressive strength of a RCC section
- FIrst go to the design panel
- After clicking the option design there will be a dialogue box named as the steel design whole structiure and in that dialogue box there will be another option called define parameter just click on that option
- After that there will be another dialogue box named as the design parameter in that dialogue box there will be various option at the left side of the dialogue box from there only choose the option FC from the given option and FC is compressive strength of a RCC Section
- Now specify the compressive strength here based on the grade of the conrete that we adopted for the project
- And this is how we can specify the design compressive strength for a rcc section
QUESTION 2:
- State the input steps involved in RCC design
- There are 8 inputs steps involved in RCC design
- GEOMETRY
- So the gewometry panel mainly deals with initial part of the modelling in STAAD PRO software in the geometry panel we can draw the entire building using the geometry panel. The whole building panel we can draw the entire building using the geometry panel. The whole building is drawn within the geometry input as per the architectural layout that we have received
- PROPERTIES : So in the properties panel we assigned the various properties to the modellike beams ,column, Plates using this property panel
- MATERIAL : As the name suggest we assigned diffrent material to the model using to the material panel
- SOECIFICATIOIN : In the specification panel we assigned the designation that to be followed while analyzing
- SUPPORTS : In this panel we assign the base supports and the boundary condition. All the things that are related to the loadings that we are going to assign in the model are done in this loading panel
- ANALYSIS: In the analysis panel, the computational analysis is executed after doung the above steps we need to analyze the building for the safety of the building and this analyzation of the building is to be done on the analysis panel
- DESIGN : And the final steps in the modelling in STAAD PRO SOftware is the deisgn. So after doing the analysis the building sections are designed and the detailed reinforcement design according to the designing that we have done so far is extracted thorugh design input
- EXPLAIN THE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN FOXED AND ENFORCED SUPPORT CONDITION IN STAAD.PRO
- The diffrence between the fixed and enforced supprt condition in STAAD PRO is discussed below
Fixed Supprt conndition Endorced supprt condition
Fixed Support are restrained in all six degrees Enforced supprt are also restrained in all six degrees of freedom degrees of freedom
It does not contain spring sonstant It contains sproing constant
- QUESTION 3 :
- The steps that are involved in the analysis of the model using the staad pro sequentially are discussed below
- So once the modelling have been completed and all the loads and the loads combination have been assigned to the model, then comes the analysis part that is carried out in a sequestial manner as discussed in the steps below
- SO the first thing that we need to do in orider to do the analysis of the building just go to the analysis panel anf there will be an option define commands just click on that option
- After that there will be another dialogue box named analysis in the dialgue box that dialogue box contains various option
- And then select the method that is based on out project
- And then click on the load list and make sure all the loads and load combination are selected to
- And then click on the option add and close the dialogue box
- Then rin the analuysis by cllicking on the rin analusis option
- Explain the two ways in which a structural framework model can be created in STAAD PRO software
- THe two ways in which a striuctrall framework can be created in STAAD PRO software are
- Node by node method
- Structure wizard method
- Node by Node
- In this method we assign the nodes as per the architectural drawings that are placed manually by placing the coordinates
- We can assign the nodes to our building by using the geometry panel
- And these nodes can be trasitionally repeated based on the building dimension and the level
- Structure Wizard
- So the second method is structure wizard method to model a building
- This method is on automated method as compared to the node by node method
- We can create truss and other structures just by using this method
- Elaborate the diffrent support conditions in Staad pro
- FIxed supprt condition
- Pinned support
- Enforced support
- Multilinear support
- Tension/compression only springs
- Foundation support condition
- Fixed support COndition
- Fixed supports are restrained in all six degrees of freedom
- PINNED SUPPORT CONDITION
- Pinned support are restrained against translation FX, FY and FZ but can rotate freely MX,MY,MZ
- ENFORCED SUPPORT CONDITION
- Enforced support are also restrained in all six degrees of freedom but it contains sprong constant
4.) How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab
- First of all create the nodes of a staircase slab can be distracted by using the below procedure
- Create the nodes of staircase using the geometry panel option
- After creating the nodes assign the plate element as slab property and then define load cases and calculate area load that iis acting on staircase slab
- After this apply the load cases and the load combination toi the plate element as the area load
- And create a mess on the plate element
- And after creating the mesh on plate element go for analysis of the model succesfully go to the post processing mode option which can be present on the left side of the screen
- After clicking on the option post processing mode, click on the plate result option
- After clicking on the OK button the staad pro software will show the stress distribution result
- And we can see the distribution tresult in the form of diffrent colour zones which shows the mazimum and the minimum and minimum stress values
- Diffrent colours shows the doffrent results of minimumm and the maximum stress distribution among the astiarcase
- So this is how we can extract the stress distribution for a staircasee slab
5.) Expplain the diffrent ways to view SFD and BMD in STAAD PRO
- In order to view the sfd and bmd in the software first create the model using the nodes method in the geometry panel
- After creating the nodes go to properties panel and assign the properties to the model
- And afer that give specification to the model according to the architectural layout
- Assign the support condition after assiginibng the support condition to the model do the beam result just click on that option
- After clicking the option a tool pallete will appear on the screen
- Here we can see diffrent values such as shear force or bending moments
- So in order to see the shear force diagram click on the Fy option and if we want ti see tge bendng moment diagram then click on option MZ
- SO this is procedure by which we can see the shear force and bending moment diagram easily
- PRACTICAL
- AIM : To analyze the simply supppported beam and to validate the results
- PROCEDURE:
- First of all draw the beam of length 20m and to draw the beam of 2-m use the node by node option

- After creating the beam of length of 20m now add the properties of slab
- Add rectangular section to the beam just as shown in below image

- Now click on add option and select the add section and choose option assign to the view and then click on option assign and click as just as shown

- After assign the property assign the material as concrete
- Assign the material and choose the desired material and assign it to the beam

- After the assigning the material assign the support condition

- Assign the point load of 50 kn and both loads are located at the 5m from each support

- Loads of 50 kn assigned at both ends

- After assigning the load we will be doing ananlysis in order to run the analysis set the analysis method and run the analysis

- Analysis has been done

- After analysis is done go to the post processing mode and select load cases and check SFD abd BMD diagrams just as shown in figure

- AIM : To analyze the fixed beam and to validate the results
- PROCEDURE:
- Draw a beam of length 16m and use the node by node method
- After creating the node now draw the beam

- After creating te beam of legth of 16m add properties to the slab
- Add rectiangular section to the beam

- Now click on add option and select added section and choose option to assign to the view and then click on the option assign and click

- After assigning the property now we will assigning the material as concrete
- In order to assign the material go to the material panel and then there will be another dialogue box in that dialogue box choose the desired material and assign oit to the beam

- Now assign the support condition

- Assign the point load of 9Kn

- Now udl of 9 Kn have assigned at beam just as shown

- After assigning the load we will be doing the analysis in order to run the analysis set the analysis method and run the analysis method

- Analysis has been done

- After the analysis go to the post processing mode and select the load cases and check the SFD and BMD diagrams
