Week 2 Challenge

AIM:- To state the basic inputs in STAADPro and to draw a given model.

1.1 How will you assign Circular section to column?

-Go to properties section and select define properties, in that we can define different section, there we will get option for circular section.

1.2 How will you assign Unit system to a .std model file?

-Go to view select display option, a window will pop up there we can change the units.

1.3What are the parameters to be specified while using “Bay Frame” option?

-we need to specify length width and height of the model and also the number of bays along these

1.4 Name few codal standards incorporated in STAAD Pro software.

-All major codes of the world like IS code, American standard code and British standard codes are incorporated in the SAATDPro

-IS code like, IS456,IS1893 etc.

1.5 How will you specify the design compressive strength for a RCC section?

-Go to design tab and select concrete use define parameters, window will pop up there we can define many properties, in that we will find compressive strength of concretre.

2.1 State the “Input” steps involved in RCC design.

-draw geometry

-define properties

-define material and its properties

-provide support condition

-apply loadings

-perform analysis

-select design tab, choose the codal standard, and give the specified values of concrete.

-run analysis

-Go to post processing and select the beam cursor and check the results.

2.2Explain the difference between Fixed and Enforced support condition in STAADPro.

- FIXED- It is the end condition in which all degrees of freedoms are restrained

FIXED BUT- It is the condition in which we can customize the end condition of fixed end by giving some stiffness, means it can yield but only on some condition.

3.1 Explain the steps involved in analysis of a model using STAAD Pro sequentially.

-Go to analysis command, and define the command, a window will pop up there we have to provide the analysis method.

-Now run analysis, a new window will pop up, it shows any errors or warning rectify them and run analysis again.

3.2 Explain the two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software.

-There are two ways, a)Anaytical, b)Physical

In physical, model is placed on the scale in which it would appear in real world.

3.3 Elaborate the different support conditions in STAAD Pro.

-Fixed

-Pinned

-Fixed but

-Enforced

-Enforced but

-Inclined

-Tension/Compression spring only

-Multilinear spring

3.4 How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab?

-After completion of analysis, go to post processing mode

-Select load combination

-click plate results

-select plate cursor

-check max stress and get the SFD.

3.5 Explain the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro.

-In post processing mode, select the SF and BM tools available in ribbon

-Click on layout and select the graph option

-Double click on the member.

PRACTICAL:-

For given two problems:-

1)Define the geometry, considering one end as origin and give other as (16,0,0)m

2)Define properties, in which select any type of section, I have given 0.25*0.25 for first and for second 0.5*0.5m.

3)Define material

4)Give support condition, first one is hinged and second one hinged.

5)Apply loads, considering only live and define one as concentrated and other as uniformly distributed load, to define the load we have to provide the distance of the load starting and end from both ends.

6) Give analysis command, and run analysis, if any warning pop up then rectify it.

RESULT:-STAADPro is useful for quick analysis of structures, hand calculation of small problems will take relatively more time.
