2. 1. State the “Input” steps involved in RCC design.

A. The steps involved in RCC design.

  1. To create geometry
  2. Assign Property
  3. Assign Supports
  4. Assign Loads
  5. Analyse the Models
  6. Select on Design Tab
  7. Select IS code 456
  8. Give Compressive strength of comprete
  9. Run the analysis
  10. Go to PostProcessing
  11. Select Beam Cursor
  12. Select Beam
  13. Check the Results

2. Explain the difference between Fixed and Enforced support condition in STAADPro.

A. Fixed Support degrees of freedom which are to be treated as fully restrained, Hence, those degrees of freedom are not considered for the stiffness matrix, and their value is not calculated. But in Enforced degrees of freedom which are free to displace are assigned springs of zero stiffness. Hence, for all the 6 degrees of freedom at such supports, the displacements are calculated.

3. 1. Explain the steps involved in analysis of a model using STAAD Pro sequentially.

A. The steps involved in analysis of a model using STAAD Pro are:

  1. Create a model using node system
  2. Add beams
  3. Choose properties
  4. Add supports
  5. Add specificaton if any required
  6. Add loadings
  7. Perform analysis
  8. Run the MODEL
  9. Go to post processing tab
  10. Now the DISPLACEMENT, SHEAR FORCE AND BENDING MOMENT are checked.

2. Explain the two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software.

A. The two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software:

  • By Analytical Model
  • By Physical Model

STAAD.Pro Physical Modeler takes advantage of physical modeling to simplify of modeling a structure, which in turn more accurately reflects the process of building a model. Beams and surfaces are placed in the model on the scale of which they would appear in the physical world.

3. Elaborate the different support conditions in STAAD Pro.

A. The different support conditions in STAAD Pro:

  • Fixed
  • Pinned
  • Fixed But
  • Enforced
  • Enforced But
  • Multilinear spring
  • Foundation
  • Inclined
  • Tension/Compression only springs

4. How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab?

A. The process to get stress distribution are:

  • After Analyse go to the Postprocessing
  • Select Load Combination
  • Click on Plate Results.
  • Select Plate Sress Contour
  • Select Load Combination.
  • Check Max Absolute Stress
  • Check Major Principle Stress
  • Check MX(Local)

5. Explain the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro.

A.

  • After Analysis
  • Go to PostProcessing
  • Check SFD and BMD by Click on SFD and BMD tool.
  • Next Click on Layout and click on Graph to view SFD and BMD
  • By Double click on Member.

Practical

AIM: To analyze the following structural elements and validate the results
A. Simply Supported Beam
a. A Simply supported beam with two point loads symmetrically placed
b. Span L = 20m
c. Load P = 50kN each
d. Both P located at 5m from each support

INTRODUCTION: STAAD Pro is a software widely used in the field of Civil engineering. It has more flexible and advanced features than Auto CAD, being used in the construction industry. AutoCAD allows candidates to work on two-dimension models; however, STAAD Pro will let you work on three-dimensional models.

PROCEDURE:

1. Double click on the STAAD.Pro software to open the software.

2. Next step we need to click on New and give the details as per the file, like name of file as Week2A and engineer as Sai vihari. And click on create to create a file.

3. Now we need to a create a simply supported beam of 20m. A beam of 20m is to be drawn for that we need to specify in the nodes as 0-5m, 5-15m, 15-20m so that a beam is created.

4. Materials which is concrete and properties of beam are assigned to the beam created.

5. Next step is to assign supports to the beam as the given assignment it is said that it is simply supported beam. As it is simply supported FY is restrained.

6. Now we need to create a Uniformly Distributed Load w=9kN/m

Go to loads -> Load case details -> Load items -> Member loads -> Concentrated load -> Local Y -> -50KN -> Add.

Assign is clicked to assign the load to the beam using nodal cursor or normally.

7. Now run analysis is done by perform analysis from the design and analysis panel. Once you are done with setting up the analysis method, go ahead and run the analysis from the analysis and design panel.

Bending moment diagram: Shear force diagram:

RESULT: A simply supported beam of span 20m is created with a point load of 50KN at two points equal distance from ends 5m using the STAAD.Pro software.

AIM: To analyze the following structural elements and validate the results

B.Fixed Beam
a. Span L = 16m
b. Uniformly Distributed Load w=9kN/m
