Week 14 challenge
Butterfly valve Assembly
AIM :
The objective of this project is to design the assembly of the Butterfly valve and apply the GD&T concepts to the various parts of the Butterfly Valve.
INTRODUCTION :
Butterfly Valve are a family of Quarter - Turn Rotational Motion Valves that are used in pipelines to shut off Flow. so Butterfly Valves can be used to regulate the Flow.
The construction of a butterfly valve is relatively simple, with the rotation of the valve disc controlling the fluid flow. In the closed position, the disc blocks the valve bore while in the open position, the disc is oriented perpendicular to the flow direction to allow flow. Butterfly valves generally provide bi-directional flow and shutoff capability. However, they are not full-bore, which renders them unsuitable for pigging or swabbing. The body material is ductile iron with an epoxy powder coat on both internal and external surfaces. The valves are typically operated by handwheels, gears, or actuators, or a combination thereof, according to the specific application requirement and technical specifications.
HERE ARE SOME ADVANTAGES OF BUTTERFLY VALVE ,
1. Light Weight
2.Low Cost
3. Compact Space.
4. Low Maintenance cost
5. Versatility and Immediate Response.
There are multiple ways to operate, or actuate, a butterfly valve - manual, semi-manual & fully automatic.
Here we are using Manual Method to operate Butterfly Valve , that is by using Lever as a Handle to Open and Close. Let us discuss about the components in detail.
COMPONENTS OF BUTTERFLY VALVE :
1. Body
2. Shaft-Stem
3. Retainer
4. Disc Plate
5. Lever Handle
6. Nut
1. BODY - BUTTERFLY VALVE
Body is one the vital components of Butterfly valve which is fitted between two Pipe Flanges.
The set of commands Like Sketch, Extrude , Counterbore & Unite are used to create this body in NX CAD.

2. SHAFT - BUTTERFLY VALVE :
Shaft is one of the vital parts of Butterfly valve Where it Holds the Disc /Plate and Lever , Nut are being assembled to it. Operations like Extrude , Revolve , Chamfer are being used to create the Butterfly Valve in NX CAD.

3. RETAINER - BUTTERFLY VALVE :
Retainer is a Washer Which is fixed on the Body of the Butterfly Valve Below the Lever.

4 .DISC /PLATE - BUTTERFLY VALVE :
When valve is fully opened or closed the disc is rotated a quarter turn. Disc is mounted on shaft. When the valve is closed, the disc is turned so that it completely blocks off the passage way. When the valve is fully open, the disc is rotated a quarter turn so that it allows an almost unrestricted passage of the fluid.

5. LEVER :
Lever Handle is mounted at an end of shaft outside the body. Hand lever is usually used in small sized Butterfly valves. Basically lever handle is used to open and close the Butterfly Valve. It provides ease of operation at the expense of speed. It can be adjusted to various position with the help of the gearbox.

6. NUT :
Nut is used to Hold the Component in Position. It is fixed at the top end of the shaft to keep the Lever and Retainer on position.

ASSEMBLY OF BUTTERFLY VALVE :
In Assembly we will put all components in one assembly file and use the move command to move the Parts in respective places. And use commands like infer center / axis , Touch , Align to constrain all components together . And Hence one complete Assembly is formed. And GD&T Symbols are given accordingly.
