Week 12- Final project
AIM - Creation of CAD model considering following inputs as like in OEM and tier1 companies.
- Class A surface
- Nominal thickness
- Attachment strategy
SOFTWARE USED - CATIA V5
OUTPUT REQUIRED -
- Generate a sketch using the Positioned sketch tool.
- Ensure that all sketches are Iso-Constrained.
- Maintain a proper tree structure for organizing the sketches.
- Assign appropriate names to geometrical sets based on the sketches contained within them.
- Utilize the master section as a reference to create a thickened part.
- Design the mounting features in accordance with industry guidelines and master sections.
- Perform draft analysis and tooling analysis.
- Establish parting lines and verify the feasibility of tooling.
TOOLING AXIS CREATION
Procedure for Tooling axis creation
-
- Manually adjust the compass to determine the optimal tooling direction.
- Analysis indicates that setting the y-axis as the tooling direction would effectively clear most of the faces without encountering difficulties.
- Extract a surface and establish a mid-point on it.
- Create a dummy axis by drawing a line through the midpoint, aligning it with the y-axis direction.
- Conduct a draft analysis to assess whether the chosen axis successfully clears the required draft. If not, generate a new tooling axis.

Draft analysis of Class A.
In order to facilitate the ejection of a component from a mold, draft angles are applied. The minimum draft angle for plastic components is -3 degrees.
For dog houses, the minimum draft angle is set at 1.5 degrees for outer walls and 0.5 degrees for inner walls.
When it comes to heat stakes and locators, both inner and outer walls should have a minimum draft angle of 0.5 degrees.
