Week 11 - Project - A pillar Design with Master Section
A PILLAR DESIGN USING MASTERSECTION
AIM:
To create the A Pillar design closed body plastic component as per given master section and perfomed draft analysis on a final component in order to check the component feasibility and manufacturability. also create B side engineering feature Dog house as per design rules and check for draft analysis.
INTRODUCTION:
The A-pillar is a critical component in automotive design, providing structural support and contributing to the overall safety and aesthetics of a vehicle. This report focuses on the design analysis and optimization of the A-pillar using a master section approach, with a specific emphasis on automotive plastic components.
IMPORTANCE OF A PILLAR DESIGN:
- Structural Integrity: The A-pillar plays a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity of the vehicle, especially in the event of a collision.
- Aesthetics: A well-designed A-pillar enhances the overall exterior appearance of the vehicle, contributing to its visual appeal.
MASTER SECTION APPROACH:
The master section approach involves creating a comprehensive cross-sectional design (master section) that serves as a reference for the entire A-pillar.
Inputs of class A and 2 environments past will be given Master section should be developed to show
- Part thickens
- Fixation strategy
- Assembly strategy
Given Class A Asthetic surface

As we can that the given class A is not clearing with the 3 Deg draft hence we either go to improved class A or the drawing goes back to styling team.

TOOLING AXIS
The Bisecting method is used to created the tooling axis for the component

Creation of Class B Surface
As per master section the component thickness is 2.5 mm hence here it is offsetted to 2.5 mm.

The following patches are done by using boundry and sweep command.

Hence the class B surface is formed below

Creation of C surface

Final Trim

Closed volume A Pillar

As you can see that the solid component is not clearing with 3 degree draft angle because of incorrect input (Class A) given by styling team.
