Week 11 Car Crash simulation
Objective: This challenge aims to perform the Parametric Analysis of the Frontal Car Crash test using three different thicknesses of 0.3mm, 0.5mm, and 0.7mm for the car body.
Geometry:
The Geometry consists of two bodies 1) Wall 2) Car Body.

After importing the model in Ansys Mechanical, make the model Symmetric so that we can get the results over all the body.
Go to 'Model > Symmetry > Symmetric Region'

Material: The Material For Car body is Stainless steel Non-linear and for the wall, it is Structural Steel.
The Properties of the material are given below.
Stainless Steel NL:

Structural Steel:

In this analysis, no contact is used as we want to test the impact on the car body due to a crash with a rigid wall.
Mesh:
Given the Tet mesh for both Car body and wall.

We have used some finer mesh in the area which is going to in contact with the wall. We have used face sizing at that particular location.
Boundary Conditions and Analysis Settings:
We have fixed the car with fixed support and Given the displacement of 500 mm to the wall.
Fixed Support:

Displacement:

In Analysis Settings End time = 0.001 sec.
Results:
Animation:
1) Thickness of 0.3 mm.
a) Total Deformation:

b) Equivalent Stress on Car Body:

2) Thickness of 0.5 mm.
a) Total Deformation:

b) Equivalent Stress on Car Body:

3) Thickness of 0.7 mm.
a) Total Deformation:

b) Equivalent Stress on Car Body:

Parametric Results:
While Setting up the Deck we have set Thickness and results to Parametric hence it will help us to get results for different parameters in a single deck only.

Conclusion:
| Thickness of Car Body(in mm) | Max. Total Deformation(in mm) | Max. Equivalent Stress (in MPa) |
| 0.3 | 1058.3 | 2360.14 |
| 0.5 | 1056.3 | 2362.06 |
| 0.7 | 1052.4 | 2338.40 |
We have successfully simulate the car crash model.
From the results it is observed that as the thickness is increased the stress induced in the car body and total deformation is decreased. Hence for safety, it is recommended to use the maximum possible thickness
