Perform Explicit Dynamics on Car Crash simulation Using 'ANSYS WORKBENCH'

AIM:

Perform Advance Structural Analysis in Explicit Dynamics on the Forntal Car Crash Simulation Using ANSYS WORKBENCH.

OBJECTIVE:

Perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body. Apply the same conditions as mentioned in the video that corresponds to this Project. Analyse the total deformation and Equivalent stresses acting on the model.

GIVEN MODEL:

PROCEDURE:

*Generally During a Car crash Assissment there are Three types of Testing are performed.

1. Frontal Impact Test.

2.Side Impact Test.

3.Rear Impact Test.

*In this project i analised Frontal Impact Test.

i.Materials

Assign the material as structural steel for both the cases by, Selecting the Engineering data >> Edit >> Engineering data sources >> General Materials >> Structural steel.

*Properties of the structural steel is shown in below.

*Properties of Stainless steel Non-Linear.

*After Assigning the material close the engineering data and open new space claim to make the required designs.

*Once geometry is imported from the space claim then open the model and eidt the geometry in Mechanical moduler.

*After that Create Symmetry for half bodies of both Car-body and Wall.

*Create fixed support and Diplacement of 500 mm in Z- Direction to the model.

*Generate the Mesh on the model

*Mesh Parameters

*After that Give all analysis setting in steps of time.

RESULTS:

CASE-1

Thickness = 0.3 mm

EQUIVALENT (VON-MISES) STRESS:

MAX: 11837 and MIN: 0

EQUIVALENT ELASTIC STRAIN:

MAX: 0.039311 and MIN: 0

TOTAL DEFORMATION:

MAX: 907.18 and MIN: 0

PARAMETRIC STUDY :

*Perform Parametric study to compare the result of frontal car crash analysis with different car-body thickness values

*Comparing results :

CONCLUSION:

* Stress and Strain are almost same at three different car-body thickness values.

*Total deformation is decreasing with increasing thickness value.
