Challenge

Week - 10 Hyperelastic Material Models

Aim: To calculate the Mooney rivlin and Ogden material constants and compare the both using stress-strain data from a Dogbone specimen tensile test with 100 percent strain.

Given data:

Procedure:

1. Importing the dogbone specimen key file and creating shell card with 1.5mm thickness.

2. Creating a curve by using the data given.

3. Creating the mat77 - H - Hyperelastic material card and assign the material curve and values displayed below.

4. Creating spc set on one side of the dogbone specimen in all dof and mid nodes in y dof.

5. Creating motion set on one side of the dogbone specimen and assign the displacement curve to the motion.

6. Creating control cards and to run the simulation in implicit.

7. Creating Control termination card.

8. Create output request cards like ASCII_option, Binary_D3plot, Extent_binary cards.

9. After running the simulation open the d3hsp card and look for the Mooney constants. Repeat the simualtion by internchanging the N value in Material card to 2 and 3.

10. Make a note of all the N1, N2 and N3 constants obtained.

11. Now run the analysis again by entering the constant values into the material card and plot the graphs.

12. Now repeat the same analysis again with Ogden material card and find the Ogden constants.

13. Now repeat the process by entering the constant values into the material card and then plot the graphs.

Conclusion:

  • Monney rivlin and ogden constants are derived and compared using stress vs strain curve.
  • Data is validated using by comparing simulation data and material data.
