Week 10 - Challenge 3 - Door Trim Lower with Engineering Features
Tooling axis
In injection molding, the Class A surface is first analyzed to determine the axis or tooling direction that separates the molds. Tooling direction is critical for plastic product design because it determines mold direction. The axis can be created in different ways based on the mold components. The main reason to design tooling axis is to know to opening of core and cavity direction.
In catia there are diiferent methods to create tooling axis
1.BY point and direction
2.By biscuting method
Before designing class B we should ensure that the class A clearing tooling axis
Draft analysis of Class A
Draft analysis is done that the tooling of 3 degree is clearing if tooling axis is not clearing we have to appor differnt tooling axis method to get the draft analysis as per requirement.
Class B suraface
Before creating the b surface the A surface should be offsetted to the required thickness. After offseting the a surface the patches as to cleared where there are gaps it has to filled to get complete b surface without any patches.

Join and a and c
The joning of a & C helps to join a and b surface and triming the the a and b surface.

Locators
4 way locator
After the design of locator the locator should have 12 degree of freedom the 12 degree of freedom place vital role for the locator should arrested in all the direction.
2 way locator
Heat stakes
In manufacturing products with thermoplastic components, it is often necessary to join athermoplastic to a part of dissimilar material, whether it be metal, a dissimilar plastic,or other material.
Advatage of using heat stakes
Simplification of machinery
• Reduced cost of machinery
• Multiple fastening points
• Allows higher density of welds
compared to hot air cold form
or ultrasonic welding
• Many different size or shaped
heads can be formed
