Week 10 Bullet penetrating a Bucket Challenge
Aim :
To perform bullet penetration through a bucket with three different nonlinear bucket materials and find solution values using ANSYS software.

Objective :
To apply same velocity for different bucket material on the given component for three different cases.
Case 1 : Aluminium (AL 1100) for bucket bucket and Tantalum for bullet.

Case 2 : Steel 1006 for bucet and Tantalum for bullet,

Case 3 : copper alloy NL for bucket and Tantalum for bullet.

Procedure :
We start from workbench and choose explicit dynamics to perform the analysis.
From explicit dynamics we add the material property in engineering data tab.
Import the given geometry to the geometry tab. We can go through the geometry using edit spaceclaim.
We set the model for analysis we move to mechanical module by using edit model.
We rename the geometry and assign the material property as it asked to assign.
We select the edge selection and refine the mesh over there and that is the contact point of the bullet and bucket.

We refine the mesh from the default value to get better solution values.
In analysis settings we do for 1 step with end time as 0.001 and rest of settings will be default.

We define fixed joint at bigger circular face of the bucket and we define a velocity load of 400000 mm/s to the bullet body.
In solution tab we select the solution values which is required for the given model.
Case 1 : Aluminium AL1100,

Equivalent strain :

Equivalent stress :

Case 2 : Steel 1006,
Total deformation :

Equivalent strain :

Equivalent stress :
Case 3 : Copper alloy NL,
Total deformation :

Equivalent Strain :

Equivalent stress :

Equivalent plastic strain :

Conclusion :
We ran the analysis and got the required solution values feom that we take one particular solution value to conclude which material has higher resistance property to the bullet veloctity.
| solution/Material | Aluminium (AL 1100) | Steel 1006 | copper alloy NL |
| Equivalent stress | 166.65Mpa | 456.63Mpa | 1994.3Mpa |
From the above table values we conclude that copper alloy NL has highest resistance to the bullet velocity and aluminium (AL 1100) has the least resistance to the bullet velocity.
Result :
The given model is analysed and found the required values successfully using ANSYS software.
