Week 10- Assembly Workbench

Design overview

To create 2d drawings and assemblies for Quick return mechanism,CV joint.

Procedure for 2d drawings

1)Create all sketches using positioned sketch.

2)All the sketches should be iso constrained.

Quick return mechanism

Quick return mechanism is an apparatus to produce a reciprocating motion in which the time taken for travel in return stroke is less than in the forward stroke. It is driven by a circular motion source (typically a motor of some sort) and uses a system of link with three turning pairs and a sliding pair. A quick return mechanism is a subclass of a slider crank linkage, with an offset crank.

Quick return is a common feature of tools in which the action is performed in only one direction of the stroke, such as shapers and powered saws because it allows less time to be spent on returning tool to its initial position.

Assembling CAT part

Assembly modeling is a technology and method used by computer-aided design and product visualization computer software systems to handle multiple files that represent components within a product.

1)Create a new CATproduct and insert all the above separate CATPART by using existing component command.

2)Create reference elements for all the parts.

3)Use publication tool and publish few tools such as planes points to make visible.

4)Keep the reference part to be fixed.

5)Using constraints assemble one part to another.

Drafting

The Drafting Workbench allows you to create an orthographic projection or drawing (CATDrawing) directly from a 3D part (CATPart) or assembly (CATProduct).

The CAT drawing contains a structure listing similar to a specification tree. The structure listing shows all the sheets and views contained in the document.

CV joint

A constant-velocity joint (also called a CV joint) is a mechanical coupling which allows the shafts to rotate freely as the angle between the two shafts moves within a certain range.

Common use of CV joints is in front wheel vehicles, where they are used to transfer the engine's power to the wheels, even as the angle of the driveshaft varies due to the operation of the suspension.
