Challenge

Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole

Answer :

In this challenge there is a two cases for the solve the solution.

for designing the two models i used the space clime with above mentioned dimentions

case -1

Length=300mm
Height=120mm
Thickness=30mm
Circular Hole at the center:
Diameter=60mm

fig1: plate with centered hole with 60mm dia

case -2

Length=300mm

Height=120mm
Thickness=30mm
Circular Hole at the center:
Diameter=60mm

smaller holes 90mm away from the center:

Diameter=30mm

fig2: plate with centered hole with 60mm dia and two 30mm dia holes

after designing i meshed the plate with 7mm size with tetrahedrons and i provided material for componet as default material that is structural steel.

then i applied fixed support and load as per given instructions to solve solution .after that i getten total deformation and equivalent stress to get the solution click the solve in solution .

fig 3 : deforation in central hole plate fig 4 : deformation in 3 holes plate

fig 5 : stress in cental holed plate fig 6 : stress in 3 holed plate

by above two streess and deformation shows clear that the comparision between centraled hole plate and three holes plate .

case 1 case 2

Total deformation :

Maximum : 0.0002746 0.00029717

minimum : 0 0

stress :

Maximum : 0.60784 0.58862

minimum : 0.020958 0.0029558

conclustion:

from the above two comaparisions

  1. for analysis point of view i preffered Three holed plate because maximum stress developed in three plate hole is minimum compared with single hole plate .
  2. from manufacturing point of view i preffered the single hole plated hole because making three holes is heavy time taking and money more for different sized holes .
