Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Aim - Designing a plate with a single hole and several holes, simulating the two scenarios, and comparing the results of its deformation and maximum stress are the goals of this assignment. Additionally, it is necessary to say which of the two circumstances will favour analysis and which one will favour the manufacturing process.
Procedure -
1. Sketched and made the geometry as specified in question.
2. Applied all boundary conditions and forces accordingly.
3. Simulated for results, and then duplicated the model and made necessary change for second case in the duplicated geometry of the model.
4. Archieved and saved the file.
Conclusion-
1. Stress for model 1( Plate with one hole) = 0.6055 MPa
Stress for model 2( Plate with three holes) = 0.57947 MPa
Deformation for model 1 ( Plate with one hole) = 0.0002749 mm
Deformation for model 2 ( Plate with three hole) = 0.0002978 mm
So, for analysis plate with three holes gives a better result and stresses generated are less, so plate with three holes are recommended.
For manufacturing purposes, plate with one hole is recommended. Because less CNC would be required to manufacture and would be easier to manufacture too.
Now in real life, factors like raw material cost, deformations are also counted and above descion might change on that basis.
