Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole

Stress concentration on a plate with hole

Aim: Stress concentration on a plate with holes

Objectives:

To design A plate with hole Model  to design A plate with three holes with different diameters
To find out maximum deformation and stress development in the above models  Comparing the results of two cases

Procedure:

First, we need to use static structural tool in the analysis system toolbox to define geometry and other parameters. In engineering data, we need to input material and its properties. as per the dimension given Need to perform case 1 and case 2 in the space claim.

For the geometry of case 1

for the geometry of case 2

we need to open modeling tab where we need to set element size as 7MM for mesh purpose add we need to use tetrahedron element type.

now we have to give boundary conditions and we need to specify fixed support and load.

Fixed support and load or case 1

Fixed support and load for case 2

now we have to solve for solution to find out total deformation and equivalent stress for results.

Total deformation for case 1

Total defamation for case 2

equivalent stress for case 1

equivalent stress for case 2

Results:

solution

case 1

case 2

1. total deformation (maximum)

0.00054978

0.00029278

2. total deformation (minimum)

0

0

3. equivalent stress (maximum)

1.207 MPa

0.5819 MPa

4. equivalent stress (minimum)

0.024201 MPa

0.00061951 MPa

Conclusion:

The deformation in the plate with a hole is less than the plate with the three holes.  The stress is more in the plate with the hole than the with three holes.  For analysis point of view, the plate with one hole is better Because when we compare stresses for both cases for its minimum level.
for manufacturing point of view, we can choose plate with one hole because there will be less fracture point and product damage will be less.
