Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Aim: To perform simulation for the given cases and compating the deformation and stress for the given cases.
Case 1:
Length: 300mm
Height: 120mm
The hole at the center with diameter: 60mm
Thickness: 30mm
Case 2:
Length: 300mm
Height: 120mm
The hole at the center with diameter: 60mm
Thickness: 30mm
Procedure:
Case 1:
- Open space claim in ansys workbench and create a plate with hole of 60mm diameter.
- Now open the model in ansys mechanical and mesh the model with element size of 5mm.
- In static structural, fix one end of the plate in all dof and assign 500N of force to the other end.
- Now request for deformation, equivalent stress in solution and run the simulation.
Case 2:
- Open space claim in ansys workbench and create a plate with middle hole of 60mm diameter and two holes with 30 mm diameter apart from the center of the middle hole.
- Now open the model in mechanical model and mesh the model with element size of 5mm similar to case 1.
- Repeat the same process by fixing the one end of the plate and assigning the 500N force to the other end.
- Now request for deformation, equivalent stress in solution and run the simulation.
Results:
Stress:
Deformation:
Conclusion:
- It is concluded that stress are higher in case 1 compared to case 2 and deformation is higher in case 2 compared to case 1.
- In Analysis point of view, case 2 is prefered as the stresses are less due to the stress distribution.
- In Manufacturing point of view, Case 1 is prefered as production depends on many factors like production time, machinery and production of 3 holes with different diameter take more time.
