1.What is Eyellipse and how it important from OEM purpose ?

Eyellispe combine the words eye and ellipse. The eyellipse represents both the driver’s interior and exterior visibility environment. It is very critical while designing a vehicle. It is to make sure there is no hindrance in the driver’s field of view. If the vehicle does not satisfy proper vision requirements than it is declared not safe as per standards.

2.Draw the complete Eyellipse Zone in a OEM environment ?

3.What is E – Point ?

  • E-points are two points that represent the left and right eye of the driver
  • The E points are spaced 65mm apart to fit 95% of the driver population

4.What is P – Point ?

  • The P point represents the neck pivot point
  • The P point is the point around which the drivers neck turns horizontally to the left and right
  • Four Variations of the P point are used in the automotive design

5.Correlation between E Point and P Point ?

P point is drawn 98 mm from the centre of the two E ponits

6.Eyellipse calculation as per E – Point and P – Point ?

The eyellipse is calculated using E-points and P-points

7.What is full form of “SgRP” ?

Seating Reference Point

8.What is H – Point ?

H-point is nothing but the seat reference point which are checked from any location within the seats

9.Difference between “SgRP” and “ H – Point “ ?

Seating Reference Point is used by OEM while H-Point us used by tire 1 suppliers. Seating Reference Point is usually measured from the vehicle origin while the H point is measured from a certain location in the seat

10.What is heel point ?

Heel point means the point which is representing the heel of shoe location on the depressed floor covering.

11.What is Oscar ?

Oscar is the name given to the 2D and 3D devices used to define and measure vehicle seating accomodation

12.Difference between Oscar and Oscar Template ?

The 2D device is called the Oscar template while the 3D device is called the Oscar machine

12.What is the purpose of Oscar ?

  • The Oscar template gives the seat designer an approximation of how much the vehicle occupant will sit in the seat

13.What is Design H – Point and Actual H – Point?

The Design H-Point represents the pivot point of the Oscar torso and thigh and is calculated using the Oscar template. The H-Point recorded through the Oscar amchine testing is called the Actual H point. The Actual H-Point is determined using the 95 % leg size installed in any designated seating position

14.What is H-Point Window ?

If the seat position can be adjusted the path of the design H- point through the full seat adjustment range establishes the design H point travel line. The point along the H point travel line is called as H- point window

15.Type of Oscar ?

  • Small women type : 104 lbs. (Represents he 5th percentile of driver)
  • Mid sized man : 169 lbs. (Represents the 50th percentile of driver)
  • Large size man : 226 lbs. (Represents the 95th percentile of driver)

16.What is the weight (in Kg) of 95 % Oscar ?

102.5Kg

17.What is the Importance of H – Point ?

  • It has direct effect on occupants relationship to other vehicle controls
  • To ensure occupant positioning adhere to OEM specifications.
  • To determine H-point tolerance

18.How the tolerance of H – Point Given ?

Over the time H-Point shifts because o deterioration of the seat foam and hence a tolerance band in the shape of a circle or in a square is given by OEM out of which the H-Point should not lie

19.What is D – Point regarding a Seat ?

D-Point is the lowest point on the buttock contour of the seated Oscar tempelate or Oscar machine in the installed position

20.What is the full form of AHP ? Define its usage for seats ?

AHP stands for Accelerator Heel Point and it refers to Oscars heel point with the shape on the un-depressed accelerator pedal and the foot angle at a minimum of 87 degrees

21.What is Hand Reach Envelop ?

The reaching distance for specific driver population is called the Hand Reach Envelope. The occupant must be able to reach the appropriate controls while in the driving position or while the car moves

22.Types of Hand Reach Envelop ? And how it is categories ?

  • Primary driver hand controls should be accessible while wearing a lap and shoulder belt in driving position

(Involves all critical controls while driving)

(Steering, Gear shifter, Ignition, Horn, Hand break, Headlamp and wiper controls)

  • Secondary driver hand controls should be accessible while wearing a lap belt

(Climate control, Radio control and other accessories)

23.What is Back/Cushion Angle ?

The back angle is the angle of recline of the torso line relative to the vertical. Back angle doesn’t measure the angle of the seat structure

Cushion angle is the angle of recline for the cushion relative to the horizontal. The cushion angle helps determine the amount of thigh support the occupant will have

24.What is Ischium?

Ischium is the lowest of the three major bones comprising each half of the pelvis. It is the part of the body that supports us when we sit in the seat.

25.What is Tail Burn ?

Tail burn happens when an occupant is seated for an extended period of time causing discomfort in the back

26.How lumber help driver ?

Lumber is the lower vertebrae in the spinal column located between the lowest ribs and pelvis

27.During RFQ what is expected from OEM?

  • Seating Reference Point/H-Point
  • Foot Angle
  • Knee Angle
  • Heel point
  • Hip point
  • Back angle

1.What is the function of a seat ?

  • Support the occupant
  • Position the occupant
  • Provide comfort for the occupant
  • Protect the occupant

2.How the seat Support the Occupant ?

Seat is designed in a such a way that it acts as a support for the occupant upou which the occupant can sit

3.How the seat Position the Occupant ?

There are three key elements to occupant positioning:

  • Hand, arm and leg room
  • Field of vision
  • Driver proximity to hand controls

4.How seat provide comfort for the occupant ?

  • Determining the amount of seta padding
  • Locating and avoiding hard points in the seat
  • Determining the angle of seat back and cushion
  • Deciding on the correct amount of thigh and lumber support
  • Establishing seat width and height

5.What is the full form of ILD? And how it is define ?

  • ILD stands for Indentation Load Deflection(ILD)
  • It is a measurement taken to assess the seat firmness
  • The load required to compress the seat pad to 50 % of its original thickness indicates the firmness of the seat
