Week 1 Challenge
- The full form of OEM is original equipment manufacturer.
- OEM - Tier 1 - Tier 2 - Tier 3 -Tier 4.
- Aptiv, Cummins are an example and they provide design solutions.
- The first car was made on January 29,1886.
- Wooden seats were used in the first car.
- The 3d reference system is used to locate all the components in a vehicle
- With the 3d reference system we can easily communicate with other teams on how to design, locate, assemble and install each individual component with much ease.
- X axis is used to determine the length of the car. The positive X axis runs in the reverse direction towards the front of the vehicle. Whereas the negative X axis runs towards the front of the vehicle.
- The plane of points where one of the coordinates is “0” is known as the zero plan.
- The point of origin of the 3d system is the intersection point of the three planes, where all the coordinates are zero. This point will differ between OEM’s.
- The point of origin is often placed on the Bumper of the vehicle or the Hood of the vehicle.
- Work lines are generally provided for individual components while grid lines are provided for the complete car.
- Work lines and grid lines are usually not interconnected and do not generally run parallel to each other. Work lines are also not usually spaced 100 mm apart such as grid lines.
- Body position refers to where a part is located in the vehicle with respect to the position of the body
- When the car comes out an OEM the seat will be inclined 20 degrees with respect to the body position of the vehicle.
- The centerline is the longitudinal axis of the vehicle that divides it into two halves. It runs vertically at the center of the vehicle from the front bumper till the rear bumper.
- The center line is usually placed at the center of the vehicle. It runs vertically from the front bumper till the rear bumper of the vehicle center.
- While sitting in a car and facing forward. The Z positive runs on the upper side of the car and it is used to determine the height of the car.
- While sitting in a car and facing forward. The Y positive runs on the right side of the car and it is used to determine the width of the car.
- Left hand drive refers to the design element or seat system component on the left side of the centerline when facing forward in the vehicle, and Right hand drive refers to the design element or seat system component on the Right side of the centerline when facing forward in the vehicle.
- Usa uses Left Hand Drive.
- Negative Y direction.
- He will be sitting on the Left side of the car.
- I opened the Door of my Car and saw my room keys on the center console , so my keys are Inboard against the Door.
- Belt Buckle attached on the right Side of the Seat.
- The Recliner handle is placed Left side of the seat.
- Inboard/Outboard is a Location based system.
- IB:Inboard, OB: Outboard.
- Going from rear bumper to forward is Fore Movement.
- C- Pillar to B – Pillar movement is Fore Movement.
- A aft movement of the seat is Negative X Movement.
- China.
- Can't understand the question.
- India will replace Japan.
- Can't understand the question.
- USA,Australia, Cyprus.
- India, thailand, Japan.
- Eyellipse combines the word eye and ellipse. It represents the driver's visibility of the interior and exterior environment. The eyellipse Starting point for the design of a vehicle which will help out on each component's visibility and placements inside and outside of the vehicle.
- .
- E points are two points that represents the left and right eye of the driver.these points are placed 65 mm apart of fit 95% of the drivers population.
- P point represents the neck pivot point, it is the point around which the driver's neck turns horizontally to the left and right.
- E points are the eye points and P points are the neck pivot points.
- E points are placed 65 mm apart from each other and P point is placed 95 mm rear from the center of Both the E points.Hence this will create a complete zone for the drivers head and using this we can calculate the Eyellipse
- The full form of Sgrp is Seating reference point.
- An H point is similar to a seat reference point. This point is given to a tier 1 supplier as a seat reference point and hence this point is called H point.
- Sgrp is the seat reference point which is used by OEM and H point is the seat points used by Tier 1 suppliers to construct the seat.
- Heel point is Oscar's heel location when he is seated on the seat.
- Oscar is the name given to a 2d and 3d device used to measure and determine the vehicles seating accommodations.the 2d device is called oscar template and the 3d device is called oscar machine.
- Oscar is the name given to a 2d and 3d device used to measure and determine the vehicles seating accommodations. The 2d device is called oscar template.
- The oscar is used as a measuring tool to determine the points around which the seat is going to be designed and hence that is the purpose of oscar.
- A point is determined that represents the pivot point of oscars torso and thigh, this point is called design H point. The H point recorded through the oscar machine testing is called the Actual H point.
- The direction and path along which the H point travels is called the H point window.
- There are 3 types of oscar template:
- Small woman type : 104 lbs ( represents 5th percentile of driver).
- Mid sized man: 169 lbs ( represents 50th percentile of driver).
- Large sized man: 226lbs ( represents 95th percentile of driver).
- 102.512 kg
- Seat design has a direct effect on the occupants' relationship to other vehicle controls. Careful measurements and testing are required to check if the occupants positioning adheres to the Oem specifications.
- The tolerance of the H point is given overtime based on the deterioration of the seat. Hence with respect to the tolerance range and the H point movement we can determine the tolerance w.r.t time.
- D point is the lowest point on the buttocks contour of the seated oscar template or oscar machined in the installed position.
- Accelerator heel point is known as AHP. It refers to oscars heel point with the shoe on the un-depressed accelerator pedal and the foot angle at a minimum of 87 degree
- The reaching distance for a specific driver population to control while in driving position is called hand reach envelop.
- There are 2 types of drive hand controls.
- Primary driver hand controls :wearing a lap and shoulder belt while in driving position.
- Secondary driver hand controls: wearing a lap belt.
- Back angle is the angle of the recline of the torso line relative to the vertical. The cushion angle is the angle of incline for the cushion relative to the horizontal.
- Ischium is the lowest of three major bones comprising each half of the pelvis. It is the part of the body that supports you when you sit.
- Tail burn is a condition of distress caused when an occupant is seated for an extended period of time.
- The lumber region is the lowest vertebrate in the spinal column located between the lowest rib and pelvis and its provides support and balnce for the body while seated.
- During Rfq OEM provides the following to be used while constructing thee seat such as the seating reference point, foot angle, knee angle, heel point, hip point and back angle, and with this information the tier 1 companies are expected to design the seat as requested by the OEM.
- The functions of a seat is to support the occupant, Position the occupant, provide comfort and protect the occupant.
- Supporting the occupant is the most basic function of seat support.improper support will adversely affect the position, comfort and safety of the occupant. Hence it needs to be designed accordingly to where it provides proper support.
- Position of the occupant is important to safe vehicle operations, there are three key elements to an occupant's position.
i.Hand, arm and leg room.
ii.Field of vision.
iii.Driver proximity to hand controls.
4.The seat must be designed to provide comfort for the occupant. The factors that must be researched on comfort of the occupant are.
I.determination of the amount of seat padding required.
II.Locating and avoiding hard point on the seat.
III.Determining the angle of seat back and cushion.
IV.Deciding on the correct amount of thigh and lumber support.
V.Establishing the seat width and height.
5.The full form of ILD is Indentation load deflection. It is the measurement taken to assess the firmness of the seat.
