Week 1 Challenge
A. Calculation of Dead Load on Deck:
Since the Box Girder is symmetrical, we start volume calculation from the right hand side of the girder where individual widths are provided.
Volume = (WidthxThicknessxSpan)m^3 for Rectangular portion.
Volume=(0.5xBasexHeightxSpan)m^3 for Trainagular portion.
1) 1.361x0.225x12 = 3.6747m^3 (Rectangular portion)
2a) 1.200x0.225x12 = 3.24m^3 (Rectangular Portion)
2b) 0.5x(0.350-0.225)x1.200x12 = 0.9 m^3 (Triangular portion)
3) 0.269x0.350x12 = 1.1298m^3 (Rectangular portion)
4a) 1.370x0.225x12 = 3.699m^3 (Rectangular portion)
4b) 0.5x(0.350-0.225)x1.370x12 = 1.0275m^3 (trangular portion)
After taking the above widths, and we know that total width is 10.2m, therefore remaining "A" width is,
10.2-(1.361+1.2+0.269+1.370) = 6m
So,
5) 6x0.225x12 = 16.2m^3
Therefore, Total Volume of right hand side of symmetry (Deck)
= (3.6747+3.24+0.9+1.1298+3.699+1.0275+16.2)m^3
= 29.871m^3
B. Calculation od Dead load on Box Girder
1) 1.821x0.2x12 = 4.3704m^3 (Rectangular Portion)
Here, Slope = 40%
2) 2.962x0.25x12 = 8.883m^3 (Rectangular Portion)
3) 0.5x0.189x0.2x12 = 0.2268m^3 (Remaining Trainagular portion)
Hence, Total Volume of right hand side of symmetry (Box)
= (4.3504+8.883+0.2268)m^3
= 13.4602m^3
Total Volme of RHS (A+B) = 29.871+13.4602m^3 = 43.3312m^3
Therefore, Total Volme of Entire Structure = 2x43.3312m^3 = 86.66m^3
Unit Weight of Concrete is 24kN/cum
Finally, Dead Load on structure is Unit Weight x Volume = 24 x 86.66 = 2079.84 ~2080kN
12m span Uniform Distributed Load is 173.33kN/m
