Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING
The Underbody coating is usually a dense cladding (based on rubber material) which is applied on the under portion of the car. It is normally painted or sprayed. The main purpose of undercoating is to check the rust especially on the body components like frame rails etc.. It also reduces the wear and tear.
TYPES:
* Asphalt based Automotive Coating
* Wax based Underbody Coating
* Polyurethane Underbody Coating
* Rubberized Underbody Coating
1. ASPHALT BASED AUTOMOTIVE COATING:
This is mainly suitable for large vehicles especially for lorries and trucks, which provides the high degree of protection when compared to the other coatings. However, asphalt based coatings contain little amount of rubber for sound insulation purposes.
2. WAX BASED UNDERBODY COATING:
The wax based coating provides the protection against the moisture. It is a fast drying and even in a thin layer thickness it forms a closed water protecting film.
3. POLYURETHANE UNDERBODY COATING:
This coating closes up the splits and fractures on the under body of the vehicle. It also provides good protection against the corrosion and bonds with the metal.
4 . RUBBERIZED UNDERBODY COATING:
This is one of the best underbody coating especially for the cars. It protects the underbody from the scratches. It does a great job of keeping existing rust all covered up along with the sharp edges but it won't slow down the spread of rust.
PROS OF UNDERBODY COATING:
If you live in an area where salt and sand are used on the roadways in cold weather, these materials can be corrosive to your vehicle. Underbody coating gives an extra layer of protection against rust and corrosion, protecting your car.
CONS OF UNDERBODY COATING:
A used vehicle may already have residue on the bottom of the car or even have spots of rust and corrosion. Underbody coating will not help, if corrosion already exists and the corrosion needs to be removed first before it can be applied, which can be expensive.
