Underbody Coating

Underbody Coating

Underbody coating is the process that provides long-term protection from corrosion to a car's underbody. It also protects internal parts like body panels, frame rails, and other internal cavities. Before doing the underbody coating the car is passed into the ED bath with the railings at a certain angle because to avoid the droplets inside the car. After ED bath the car is carried for painting in the automatic or semi-automatic process depending on the company.

The purpose of the underbody coating is:

  1. Protects against rust and corrosion: The primary objective of getting underbody coating done is to prevent metal components that are exposed on the bottom side of the car to damage from corrosion.
  2. Prevent from stone chips: While traveling there are thousands of stones hitting the car under the body. In some cases the car body might get hit by an uneven road. To avoid all such it needed to be undercoated.
  3. Reduces NVH(noise vibrations Harshness): Our country is filled with roads having uneven patches and potholes and while we maneuver our cars through such sections, the unpaved crumbs, and pebbles hit the car from underneath or get stuck in the wheel wells. The underbody coating’s consistency is so thick that the layer it creates absorbs all the unpleasant noises and vibrations and marginally improves the driving experience.
  4. Prevents paint chipping: Running on the highway or while pacing through a city road, the car will often encounter any other unattended object hitting the belly of the car with high momentum. This scrapes and chips off the metal from down below. A thick layer of Underbody Coating definitely comes to aid and minimizes the effects of such contacts on the body.
