Underbody Coating
Report on Under-Body Coating.

Under-Body Coating: Underbody coating is a thick layer (typically made of rubber or wax or polyurethane) that is placed or sprayed uniformly to the car’s underside. When the automobile is fresh off the lot and spotless, it is usually sprayed or painted on. This layer is coated to protect the vehicles from coalition against small stones which removes underbody paints and allow rusting of the chessis. Thus, underbody coating plays an important role on increasing the life and decreasing the maintainace cost of any vehicle.
Types of Under-body Coating : There are mainly four types of commonly used underbody coating which are mentioned below :-
-
Rubberized Underbody Coating
-
Wax Based Underbody Coating
-
Asphalt Based Automotive Undercoating
-
Polyurethane Underbody Coating
*Rubberized Underbody Coating.

:-This is widely considered to be the best underbody coating for any car. It protects the underbody from scratches and keeps it properly. It’s also not difficult to apply this to the undercarriage. This can be done at the authorized service center or by the local repair shop at a reasonable price. Rubberized coating is ideal if you want to keep the road noise to a minimum and rust and corrosion away. Overall, it is the best protective measures against rust and moisture.
*WAX Based Underbody Coating :

:- It is one of the cheapest method of underbody coating. This undercoating will on the whole, fade away after a few months. But on the otherhand wax-based coating is highly resistant to dampness. The benifits of this coating is that it can be applied to the areas with light rust and will stop further rusting. It provide outstanding adhesion to most surfaces and actually expel and seals out moisture.
*Asphalt Based Automotive Undercoating :

:-This type of underbody coating is mainly suitable for heavy vehicles such as Trucks, Lorires etc. This gives much better protection than rubber based coating. While coating, a small amount of rubber is used for sound insulation, which may take some time but increases the life and performance of the vehicle. Asphalt based undercoating has the benifits of being less expensive. It protect anywhere upto 5yrs and dry to firm to Hard Coating.
*Polyurethane Underbody Coating :

:- This type of underbody coatinng seals breaks and fractures in the vehicle’s underbody. It provides strong corrosion resistance and also binds to the metal. Unlike an asphalt-based coating, the polyurethane coating may be painted over. This coating is a high-quality and durable material that is perfect for any weather Condition. It s ideal for standard vehicles.
ADVANTAGES OF UNDER-BODY COATING:
1. Prevent Rusting: It has a crucial function in preventing corrosion. During the monsoon season, cars are at high risk of getting corrosion and if we want to extend our car’s life then we should get an underbody coating.
2. Absorbs Noise: Underbody coating makes a considerably thick layers beneath the underbody of the vehicles and thus helps in reducing the noise which are coming from underbody of the vehicles. So if we want a quite ride and pleasant experience it is always a good idea to consider getting an underbody coating.
3. Reinforcement: If our automobile already has an underbody covering, applying another one on top of it will not harm it. It will provide further protection for the underbody from water, road debris, gravel, and tiny stones.
4. Prolong Vehicle Life: A good undercoat protects not just the underbody from corrosion, but also the engine and gearbox! Less corrosion combined with slower wear and tear can extend the life of your car by many years.
DISADVANTAGES OF UNDERBODY COATING: Dispite of have many advantages of underboday coating there is some disadvantages also:
1.If underbody coating is not applied properly, the thick rubberized paint can get into moving mechanical parts and cause premature failure, such as into the U-joint or CV joints in the propeller shaft or drive shafts. The thick paint can also hinder smooth movement of suspension components.
2. As compares to normal washing, cleaning and painting, underbody coating will cost much higher in amount.
3. Most Underboday coating is time-connsuming as for proper use multiple layer need to coated and each layer needs time to get solidified.
