Under Body Coating

Under body coating provides long term protection from corrosion to cars under body . It also protecting parts like internal body panels frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.

Generally four wheeler vehicles and heavy duty vehicles are mainly face this issue . They are travelling on the different roads and different climatic conditions.

Mainly sea shore area due to humidity conditions corrosion problems are faced more in the vehicle.

Types of under body coatings:

1.Rubberized under body coating

2.wax based under body coating

3.Asphalt based under body coating

4.Poly urethane under body coating

Rubberized under body coating :

It is generally a best coating for a four wheeler it is protecting from scratches and it was applying this to the under carriage is not much of a hassie either . Rubber coating is prevent the water is direct contact with chassis. And the small gravel in road is making noise when we run the vehicle on its due to the small gravel is hit the under chassis.If the under chassis coating is done the the noise will reduce.

wax based under body coating:

This more or less ephermal under coating will wear away in few months time. wax based under body coating puts up a fight against moisture .It is also the most affordable option out there.

Asphalt based under body coating :

It is best suited for heavy duty and commercial vehicles like lorries , trucks and large vehicles this provides a greater degree of protection compared to rubberised based coating . How ever asphalt based coatings little amounts of rubber for sound insulation purposes. The process of applying this coating is a bit time consuming though .

This coating closes up splits and fractures on the under body of the vehicle .It offers up good protection against corrosion and also bonds with the metal. Unlike in the case of asphalt based coating , you can paint over the poly urethane coating.

BIW:

Body in white is a process in a which a car's frame have been joined together , that is before painting and before the motor chassis , sub - assemblies have been intregated into structure.Assembly involves welding , riveting ,clinching , bonding , laser bending.

After completion of this process it is going into 1.Electro deposition coating

2.Heat chamber

3.prime in coating

4.Paint booth

5.Inspection chamber

Electro deposition coating (ED):

Elecro deposition of primer coating has become universal for a modern automotive paint shop . In ED charged particles from the paint emulsion move to anode or cathode under electrical forces. In this process frame will be carried by the rail dipped in to the solution . Rail was moves in a time as per the weight of the frame and makes an angle dipped into the prime solution rail will changes the angle on moving the solution will flows through the frame in BIW . This solution reaches every point in the frame mainly to the jonts and welding parts of a frame. Rail was moves on forward and takes out from the solution all droplets are drained out through holes infact some holes are to made for this ED coating this holes are help to solution enters every part and corner of the part.The Good ED coating gives more corrosion resistance to the car.

Rail hold the frame and immerse in the solution Rail how moves the frame inside the solution and

how solution flows inside the frame.

After this process frame was moved into heat chamber due to hot air small droplets also drainesd out and goes out as dry body. Finally frame was ready to go for a prime coating region it also a primary painting region before painted a car .BIW was dipped into the primary coating paint it is in a grey colour every car was dipped and coating was applied to every corner and pont of thes frame . After completion of the priming car was goes to paint booth their paint was done as per our colour requirement.

Sealent process:

It goes through the under body sealent region.This is the region what we saw in the bench marking report.More coating region and more better the car performs.Sometimes spot welding regions are also closed with sesalent depends upon the budget and segment of the car.

After this sealent region car frame was goes to paint booth than goes for a inspection chamber where each and every character was inspect in this inspection chamber have high lighting mistakes are clearly visible where their is any mistakes .

Advantages of a under body coating:

1.Fights with rust

2.Absorbs noise

3.Reinforcement

4.Prolongs car life

5.Heat Insulation

6. Sea-shore region under body coating gives corrosion and rust resistance to car .

Disadvantages:

1.It works on new car.

2.An under coating is not impervious to damage.

3.A used vehicle may already residue on the bottom of the car or even have spots of rust and corrosion under body coating will not help you . If corrosion already exists and the corrosion needs to be removed first before it can be expensive for you.

4.if vehicle was on travelling small gravels are hit under carriage then form small scratches and paint was removed.

5.coating lifetime is very less period.

Conclusion:

Under body coating process have advantages and disadvantages but we have to see only positives with the use of this coating car life was increasing .
