UnderBoday Coating:-

Automotive paints and processes used to coat automotive surfaces exemplify avant-grade technologies capable of producing durable surfaces that exceed customer expectations for appearance, maximize efficiency and meet environmental regulations. These achievements are rooted in 100 years of experience, trial-and-error approaches, technological and technological advances and theoretical evaluations. Advances in understanding the how, why, when and where of automotive coatings, advances in the control of droplets and their deposition attributes, and the development of new technologies and paint chemistry provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the automotive industry. coating and coating technologies were considered to be of value to industrial practitioners and researchers. Overall, the critical performance factors driving the development and use of advanced automotive coatings and coating technologies are cost and environmental requirements appearance and durability. While the relative importance of each of these factors is debatable, the excellence of any one at the expense of the other would be unacceptable. Therefore, in the following review, new development trends in automotive coatings are described and discussed, which then relate to the improvement of production technologies and colors. The modern car painting process is also discussed in detailThe surface treatment of the chassis provides long-term protection of the bottom of the car against corrosion. It also protects parts such as internal body panels, frame rails and other internal cavities that are not physically accessible but are susceptible to corrosion.Protecting the underside of the car should be our top priority. Especially during monsoon when heavy rainfall causes the roads to turn into mini-rivers and our cars get stuck there. This makes them prone to severe corrosion in the underbody area.

Protects the underboday substrates from:-

.Enviromental Conditions.

.Impacts.

.Insulates against cold & Heat.

.Protects against Corrosion.

.Seals off Seams.

Repair& Bodywork With spray.

.Damper sound vibration.

Types Of UnderBoday Coating.

1.Rubberizing Underbody Coating:-

The rubberized primer is easy to apply and offers sound deadening and protection from dust, moisture and dings or dents. In addition to your chassis, the rubberized primer is also safe to use on wheel arches and quarter panels and dries to a soft rubbery finish that prevents further corrosion, damage or moisture seepage. The paint can berepainted and if needed for the body, easily removed with an undercoating spray.Overall, rubberized primer is generally the best choice for protection against rust and moisture.

2.Wax based Underboday coating:-

A paraffin-based primer will be the cheapest and fastest option available to protect your vehicle's undercarriage. However, keep in mind that it wears faster than other types of primer and will need to be removed and reapplied at least once a year.Wax-based primers never really harden. During application, they drip or flow into seams and cracks to provide protective properties. They are usually available in a spray gun canister or aerosol can and offer at least basic protection in mildly humid climates.

3.Polyurethane Underbody Coating:-

Another option for priming your vehicle is to use a polyurethane-based sealant. This type of vehicle primer is a bit faster and easier to apply.Often, polyurethane primer is supplied in a pre-filled container to the application gun. This type of sealant works by seeping into all cracks and seams, forcing out salt and moisture, and flowing around the rusted areas to bond and protect the unoxidized metal. It also sands down quickly in case you need to do bodywork and can be repainted. On the other hand, this type of automotive primer generally requires a bit more surface prep work prior to application – sanding and applying a base etch to bare metal is generally recommended prior to application.

4.Asphalt based Automutive underboday coating:-

For standard vehicles, any of the above types of primer will provide sufficient protection. For large trucks and heavy machinery, an asphalt base coat provides a little extra resistance against rocks, chips and moisture.Asphalt underlayment generally contains some rubberized material that sets firmly and also helps dampen noise. This type of primer, usually sold in five-gallon containers, also needs a longer cure time than the other three and is NOT paintable, so it's best to use it only on chassis.

Underboday Coating Process:-

.When it comes to updating your vehicle or using any type of paint, completely remove the rust first before proceeding. Rust removal can easily be achieved by sandblasting or grinding, depending on the area and extent of the rust.

.Once you've removed the rust and prepared the undercarriage for paint, give it a quick rinse and let it dry to make sure you don't keep any dirt on your vehicle's underbelly. It is also recommended to use a degreaser first to clean the metal.

.Most primers are generally applied with a spray gun. A disposable spray gun will work best; once the primer hardens it is very difficult to clean the gun even with a lot of thinner. The Schutz disposable spray gun is the best choice.

.No matter what type of vehicle primer you choose, two coats will provide optimal protection. Allow plenty of time to dry between coats.

.Allow the primer to fully cure usually overnight before hitting the road.

Pros:-

Minimizes sound: Minimizes sound from underneath the car, resulting in a noiseless and smooth driving experience.

Thermal insulation: Insulates the car interior from extreme temperatures from underneath the vehicle and provides a comfortable cabin experience.

Chip protection properties: If any stone hits the coating, it will not chip, protecting the underside of the car from water.

Cons:-

Applying chassis paint will have no effect on the already corroded part.

Undercoating is expensive.

Since the corrosion itself starts only after a few years, painting the chassis is no better than changing the car after a few years.
