UNDER COATING:

Undercoating is the process that give protection layer to the undercarriage of the car body which is protect from the corrosion, wear and tear, cracks caused by salt water, moisture, noise and dust particles in the environment.It contains various types and process let we see in the assignment.

STEPS AND TECHNIQUES INVOLVED IN UNDER COATING

In modern times undercoating process is done by fully automatic or semi automatic with robotic mechanism as per company availability in the industries.it is basically filming or foaming method to cover the under carriage.here we take a example of one old car to rubberized undercoating let we see.

1.Cleaning the under carriage:

First we need to clean the undercarriage of the car body using high force nozzle contain water washer to clean the dust and road debris dirt with a 90 degree angle of position of nozzle is good method to clean the dirts.

2.liftup the car:

Then we need to lift up the car using lifting jacks and remove the wheel of the car, it will help to cover the all area of the undercarriage of the car.Again we need to clean the undercarriage using waste towels and highly compressed air.

3.Clean the rust area:

Next we need to do clean the rust area using metalic brizzle brushes,it takes some time to clean, when your cleaning process you should have your safty glasses.

4.Spraying the rust prevent primer coating:

Then we need to spray two layers of rust prevent primer coating to the under carriage and give some time to dry.

5.Final undercoating process:(rubberized undercoating) :

Then we need to slowly coat the rubberized undercoating primer for our first layer of coating,then wait for 45 minutes to dry, then we need to the second layer of coating, this timewe need to cover 100% of the area.

TYPES OF UNDERCOATING AND IT'S PROS AND CONS

1.RUBBERIZED UNDERCOATING:

It is easy to apply and it is easy offering the sound proofing and cushioning. It is also prevents from the moisture, dusts, dents or dings. And it gives soft rubbery finish to the under carriage it is prevents from the damage,cracks.But it is easily rust in short time of period compare to all other coatings.

2.POLYURETHANE UNDERCOATING:

It material composition is made up of polyurethane sealent and it is dry quicker, and it is displacing salt, moisture and not boding with oxidization components which placed in the environment.And it is also used when rust already placed in the metal body,it has long lifespan to resist wear and tear. But For better adherence, needs undercarriage preparation before application it takes some time.

3.Asphalt-Based Undercoating:

Unlike the rubberized, wax/paraffin-based, and Polyutherane undercoatings, this type is made of asphalt and generally also contains some rubberized material that sets up firmly and helps soften noise from the engine.It reportedly has the most damage-resistant properties. Although asphalt-based undercoating is ideal for trucks, military, and all-terrain vehicles, it will also help protect your car, truck, motorcycle, and heavy machinery from the elements.it takes times to harden compare to other methods. When compare to other coating method It is not aesthetically suitable.

4.Wax or Paraffin-based Undercoating:

It is basically wax based under coating to resist from the moisture, it is used for high way road vehicles mostly, it is easy to apply and cost effective, it is not effective coating compare to other coating.Reapply the Undercoating time is very short when compare to others.

5.Water-based Undercoating:

Water-based undercoating is a protective layer that helps your car stay protected from harsh weather conditions.It is made from an advanced polymer that is non-toxic and environmentally friendly.It is Thin-set and it takes a short time to dry and it can be done at home by our self.It requires frequent repetition as it’s not very durable.

6.Petroleum-Based Undercoating:

It is a heavy, viscous oil-based liquid product that provides an effective barrier against moisture and corrosion.The liquid dries and hardens to provide tough, durable, and long-lasting protection against moisture and corrosion.It has greater deflective abilities for road salts and grime and it is Repels ice and water because of its petroleum base.It needs anual replcement.
