Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Section inertia analysis:

Section inertia analysis is used to find out the center of gravity and momoment of inertia based upon the volume and dimension of our hood.here we are going to find out the section modulus using the formula given above.

INTRODUCTION:

• Section inertia analysis is used to find out the center of gravity, moment of
inertia consider with the coordinates.
• The moment of inertia, otherwise known as the mass moment of inertia,
angular mass, second moment of mass, or most accurately, rotational inertia, of
a rigid body is a quantity that determines the torque needed for a desired
angular acceleration about a rotational axis, akin to how mass determines the
force needed for a desired acceleration. It depends on the body's mass
distribution and the axis chosen, with larger moments requiring more torque
to change the body's rate of rotation.
• In physics, the center of mass of a distribution of mass in space (sometimes
referred to as the balance point) is the unique point where the weighted
relative position of the distributed mass sums to zero.

PRIMARY GOALS:
To section the hood model in Y zero section,
joining the hood inner panel and outer panel and
do the section inertia analysis on UG NX
Using formula of section modulus.

CROSS SECTION:

DETAIL REPORT:

SECTION MODULUS:

• Section modulus is a geometric property for a given cross-section used in the design of beams or flexural
members.
• Use the Section from your Hood design and calculate the Section Modulus using the formula
• S = I/y Where,
• S = Section Modulus
• I = Moment of Inertia
• y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
• Here out of the analysis we got maximum moment of inertia ,I = 9.56671094e+08 mm4
• Y=242 mm
• So, S= 3.953186338842999969500625e9 mm(qube)

SUMMARY
Here I summited the section inertia analysis report of my hood design, the higher moment of inertia indicates more force was applied on that body which is create the rotational moment, It was varying based upon the application.Compare to previous hood what we had done in class,my hood moment of inertia is high because number of embosses high compare to that ,it will increse the stregth of the hood.
