Tool Test-2

To do a Pre-processing on a given Manifold Intake model using Ansa.

For the given Intake Manifold component, check for the geometrical errors and

mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criterias given below.

OBJECTIVES :-

To check the geometrical error on the given Manifold intake model.

To generate 2D mesh on the components based on the given quality Criteria.

To generate volume mesh on the component using tetra elements.

PROCEDURE :-

The CAD model is import the ANSA software by using the file > open and

select the CAD model.

fig. Imported Model

Before working on the model we need to clean up the geometry and gave topo and

orient the model.

fig. Topo and Oriented model

After that we need to check whether the model has any geometrical errors.

To check the geometrical errors go to the check manager that is available at the tool bar.

In the check manager select geometry and cleck execute.

After clicking on the check geometry the geometrical errors will display.

The Geometrical errors can be fixed manually or automatically.

Once the model has no error it will show green status in the image and we can

proceed further.

2D MESHING :-

Go to quality criteria that is available in tool bar.

The criteria is given in the question and given the value and clicked apply and ok.

fig. quality criteria parameter

Then the values of mesh parameters are entered.

For that go to the mesh parameter tool that is available in the tool bar of ANSA.

fig. Mesh Parameter

After that we go to the meshing.

Meshing is done using mesh generation > Best mesh tool.

This Tool generates the mesh using the element type given.

The curved faces are given the mesh element type as ortho tria and the flat

surfaces are given the mesh element type as tria.

Then the created mesh is refined using the Shell Mesh > Improve , Smooth

tool in module of ANSA.

VOLUME MESH :-

After that, We done meshing then go to the Volume mesh.

Now, we will provide the solid quality criteria as given in the problem statement.

fig. quality parameter for volume mesh

Then the volume is defined by using the define option in volume mesh module.

Then the solid property is created

Now, Go to volume mesh > list option and right click on the solid property

and click remesh option and select the volume type as tetra rapid to obtain the

volume mesh.

fig. Volume Mesh status

Once it is done the status on the volume mesh list will show meshed.

Ensure there is no OFF elements in the quality.

In the Volume Mesh tet Collapse created .

fig. Tet Collapse

This tet collapse is removed by Mesh Module > Grids > MV Free.

This MV free is used by changing direction of element.

LEARNING OUTCOMES :-

Able to do topological clean up with no errors.

Aware of all the quality criterias and quality parameters during mesh generation. Understood

about mesh generation and implemented mesh generation for complex geometry.

Rectified 3D errors using align, move and other tools in ANSA.

Learned how to define closed volume and use of volumetric mesh.

CONCLUSION :-

Solid meshing is successfully generated for Intake Manifold using the given qualty

criterias mentioned under the challenge. There are no raised edges, kinks and tet collapses.

I understood how volumes are defined and meshed.
