To plan a structural layout and to create grids using TSD
Q1.Summarize the user interface in TSD with the for the following items: -
- Project Workspace – How to access and usage
- Scene Content – Demonstrate the use of scene content
- Create two scene views
- Loading drop list- How to access
- Properties windows – how to access and usage

- Create two scene views
- Loading drop list- How to access
- Properties windows – how to access and usage
PROCEDURE :
1.PROJECT WORKSPACE :
Open the Tekla Structural Designer Software and the software will open as follows
Click on new option under home tab to create new model work space
Project Workspace is now active, all the Ribbons and Menu bars are visible and can used in the project
2.SCENE CONTENT
Go to Windows tab in that select scene content
The scene content checkbox will appear in that select the elements which need to be visible and hidden
3.CREATE TWO SCENE VIEWS
Tekla Software itself will create two default views i.e., 2D and 3D view
Grid lines are drawn to show the different views
2D VIEW
3D VIEW
4.LOADING DROP LIST
On the left side of the workspace clock on the plus icon near the loading to open the loading drop down list their various load cases and combinations which are created will be displayed
5.PROPERTIES WINDOWS
Go to Windows tab Select Properties windows to open or close it
RESULT : The given question is Solved
2. Create a new file in TSD and set up the settings for a steel building to have member grade FE410 and concrete grade of M30 as per IS codes. The covers for the members to be as per the following input: -

To change the cover settings click on the settings option in the home tab, Setting dialogue box will appear in that under loading section select Structural default
Select SSL option and apply the cover values corresponding to contact with ground
Select TOF option and apply the cover values corresponding to above ground
RESULT : The Given Question is been solved
3. With reference to the input drawing as per Attachment 1, 1.1, and 1.2 and study the steel building plan and summarize your understanding of the plan. Based on your study assume and explain the location of columns and beam and develop a hand sketch for each plan
ANS :
The first step of any structural planning is to study the architectural drawing given and to check the various properties like geometry, symmetry, stiffness, redundancy etc. After this assigning the columns and beams are done before planning for foundation or any other components.
Column placement should be done properly considering some of the points
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->At or near the corners of the building
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->At intersection of beams or walls
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Select positions in such way to avoid bending moment in beam
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->To avoid larger spans of beams
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->To avoid centre to centre distance between columns
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Column on property line
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Column should not be placed at opening or at areas having less spaces

4. Model grid lines and construction levels as per Attachment 1. 1.1 and 1.2. All dimensions are in mm
- The base level to be 500mm below ground level.
ANS :
AIM : To Model grid lines and construction levels as per Attachment and base level should be 500mm below the ground level
PROCEDURE :
Open the Tekla Structural Designer Software and the software will open as follows
Click on new option under home tab to create new model work space
Project Workspace is now active, all the Ribbons and Menu bars are visible and can used in the project
Go to model tab select construction level, the construction level dialogue box will appear
Create construction levels as Base, Ground Floor, First Floor, Roof beam level and Roof Top and Height as per the attachment
In model tab select grid line and quick parallel grid line option to create horizontal and vertical grid lines as per the dimensions given in the attachments
RESULT : The construction levels and grid lines are drawn corresponding to the given attachments
