To plan a structural layout and to create grids using TSD
AIM: To summarize the user interface in TSD with the for the following items: -
Project Workspace – How to access and usage
- Open the Tekla structural designer software and click on New option and the new model workspace will appear
- Now all the ribbons and menu bars are visible

Scene Content – Demonstrate the use of scene content
- Select window tab and then click on scene content
- The scene content checkbox will appears and it shows tick and untick element in the box

Create two scene views
- 2D view of grid line

- Scene plan view

- 3D view

Loading drop list- How to access
- Left side of workspace there is loading option and click on it we get loading drop list
- And below that there is loadcases box appear

Properties windows – how to access and usage
- Left bottom contains the property windows

AIM: To create a new file in TSD and set up the settings for a steel building to have member grade FE410 and concrete grade of M30 as per IS codes. The covers for the members to be as per the following input: -

Introduction: Tekla Structures is 3D BIM software for modeling building structures. With Tekla Structures you can create, combine, manage and distribute accurate multi-material models full of construction information.
Procedure:
1. Open the Tekla structural designer software and click on new option to create new model.
2. Then select material option from home tab.
3. Click on material option and the material dialogue box appears and the select the option material.
4. Under material drop down the list and select material type as steel and grade as Fe 410.

5. Then select material type as concrete and also select grade as M30.

6. To change the cover thickness, click on setting option and under the loading section select structure default.
7. Select SSL as default type and column cover as 50mm, slab as 30mm, and pile cap as 75mm.

8. Select TOF as default type and cover for column as 40mm,slab as 25mm and pile cap 75mm.

AIM: With reference to the input drawing as per Attachment 1, 1.1, and 1.2 and study the steel building plan and summarize your understanding of the plan. Based on your study assume and explain the location of columns and beam and develop a hand sketch for each plan
INTRODUCTION: The first step of any structural planning is to study the architectural drawing given and to check the various properties like geometry, symmetry, stiffness, redundancy etc. After this assigning the column and beams are done before planning for foundation or any other components.
Columns are to be placed at:
- At or near the corners of the building.
- Intersection of beam or wall
- Select positions so as to avoid bending moment in beam.
- Avoid larger spans of beams.
- Avoid larger centre-to-centre distance between columns.
- Columns on property line.
Columns should not be placed at places having door(openings) or at places that takes away the beauty pf the building or at areas having less spaces.

ELEVATION:

AIM: Model grid lines and construction levels as per Attachment 1. 1.1 and 1.2. All dimensions are in mm
- The base level to be 500mm below ground level.
