Steering Geometry 1

8)1)

  1. castor =5.361`degree` (it is measured from the side view of the car ; castor=`arctan`(dx/dz)
  2. mechanical trail=-1.79253mm(it is measured from the side view ; dx(WB-LBJ)+tan`theta` dz(WB-LBJ)
  3. kpi=9.908021`degree`(it is measured from the front view ; `arctan`dy(UBJ-LBJ)/dz(UBJ-LBJ)
  4. scrub radius=48.207mm( it is measured from the front view ; dy(WB-LBJ)-tan`theta`dz(WB-LBJ)
  5. kingpin lateral offset=87.5mm(it is measured from the WC to the knuckle centre ; wb-average of UBJ and LBJ

2) lateral force(Fy)=2000N

pneumatic trail(Pt)=25mm

mechanical trail(Mt) is calculated from the above graph wich is -9mm(negative sign indicates it is left to the vertial z axis

Restoring moment(Rm)=Fy(Pt+Mt)

=2000(25+1.79253)

=53585.06Nmm.

3)we can change the scrub radius by moving the lower ball join towars the negative y axis which makes the scrub meets at the outboard of the tire changing the scrub from positive to negative scrub radius.
