Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
Aim:
- To sketch a G+1 floor residential plan according to Vastu Shastra and to list down the names of structural drawings required to be provided to the site of construction.
- Assume the size of structural elements ( column, beam ,slab etc.) and accordingly calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members according to IS code.
Vastu Shastra:

Drawing:

Other dimensions:
- Thickness of internal wall : 0.15 m
- Thickness of external wall : 0.23 m
- Thickness of slab : 0.25 m
- Dimension of column : 0.3m x 0.3 m
- Dimension of beam: 0.3m x 0.45m
- Height of wall of each floor: 3m
List of Drawings provided at construction project:
- Architectural Drawings
- Electrical Drawings
- Plumbing Drawings
- Structural Drawings
- Fire Fighting Drawings
- HVAC Drawings
An architectural drawing is a technical drawing of a building (or building project) that is used by architects to develop a design idea into a coherent proposal, to communicate ideas and concepts, to convince clients of the merits of a design, to enable a building contractor to construct it, as a record of the completed work, and to make a record of a building that already exists.

Calculation of Loads:
- Dead load calculation:
(a) Dead load of column:
Height of column : (slab thickness x 2) + (Height of each floor x 2) = (0.25 x 2) + (3 x 2) = 6.5 m
Total volume of concrete = 0.3 x 0.3 x 6.5 = 0.585 m^3
Unit weight of RCC = 25 kN/m^3
Dead load on column = 25 x 0.585 = 14.62 kN
(b) Dead load of beam:
Total volume of concrete = 0.3 x 0.45 x 1 = 0.135 m^3
Dead load of beam = 25 x 0.135 = 3.375 kN
Unit weight of building materials as per IS 875 (Part 1)
(c) Dead load of slab:
Slab is always designed for span 1m.Hence , assume size of slab = 1m x 1m
Thickness of slab = 0.25m
Self weight of slab = 1 x 1 x 0.25 x 25 = 6.25 kN
(d) Dead load of walls:
External wall: Thicknes = 0.23 m , Unit weight of brick wall= 20 kN/m^3, Height of wall = 3m
Load of wall on beam = 3 x 0.23 x 20 = 13.8 kN
Internal wall: Thickness = 0.15 m
Load of wall on beam = 3 x 0.15 x 20 = 9 kN
- Live load calculation:
According to IS 875 (Part 2)
Following are the live loads for different buildings:

- Wind load calculation:
Wind load is designed only when the height of building exceed 10 m .
The height of building design is 6m which is less than 10m so, we will not consider wind load.
Codes referred :
IS 875:1987 (PART 1) for Dead load
IS 875:1987 (PART 2) for Live load
IS 875:1987 (PART 3) for Wind load
IS 456:2000 for RCC
Result:
- The plan is designed by considering Vastu Shastra concept
- The load calculations are done as per IS code consideration.
